I am just not super happy with any of my spinning rods for trout, and refuse to bring my nicer bass stuff on these trips because of all the bad things that can happen with 4 guys in a bay boat. I thought I had found the one in a TFO Professional, but it was shipped broken, and the guides are gigantic/heavy. Our Academy doesn't carry Falcon Coastal, so never held one. Not opposed to buying one on my drive next week from CENLA down to Coco if there's something great on the way.

I know it is pricey but a st croix medium heavy with a shimano 4000D spooled with 30 lb braid is one of the nicest rods i have used inshore.

I use it with live or artificial shrimp under a cork or carolina rig live shrimp on bottom.

Their slogan "best rods on earth" is a factual statement!

The one I have used the most is just too heavy. The power is better suited to larger baits/fish. My Crappie stuff is too light. My bass stuff is too precious

I use Dobyns Champion 733 M for popping corks and topwaters. 702 M for jerk baits and jigs. I have a 702 MH that I use for one specialized rig with heavier weight. That rod doesn't get a whole lot of use.

Some people prefer MH rods for popping corks because of the weight of the overall rig. I just rarely use them and would prefer to fight a trout on a M rod as opposed to a MH.

Yup. I will probably go ML for this one if I find the right one. If I do have to throw a weighted cork rig, I have that covered. I do that less and less now. The last time were were on a good cork bite, I just added a cork to my existing set up and did fine. The kind with the slit that allows you to add it without retying.

Why not buy a duplicate of your favorite bass rod(or two) and have it just be a dedicated trout rod.

My nice trout spinning rod is a G Loomis E6x

My beater trout spinning rod is an Okuma DTR.

I like the Okuma a lot. Plenty fine for corks and jigs

Yeah, I like those. My BassX feels kinda cheap. My Legend Tournament actually feels overbuilt, and not in a comfortable way. It has its place though.

What types of baits do you plan on using with it? These types of questions can be hard to answer without knowing what you plan on throwing. Inshore doesn’t need to be as complicated but bass guys will have a different rod, reel, line combo for each individual bait they throw.

Artificial shrimp as small as the Shrimplet and if forced, live shrimp with one split shot.
