I only hunt public land.
I would never hunt in anyone elses stand and I probably wouldn't hunt next to anyones stand if I thought they were actively using it that season or recently, mostly because I like to find low pressure areas.
I love where I hunt because 99% of the time, there are 3 of us that hunt the block that I hunt and we all know where each other hunts and we all respect each other's "spots".

I’ve got 2 ladder stands set up right now in superior National Forest. If I get there one morning and one is gone, well that’s the chance I took hanging the bastard there. If one of y’all gets in there and decides to sit in one while I ain’t there, well good luck. I hope you get a big one! Please post pictures if you do. It ain’t my property. On public land it’s nothin more than a community stand. That’s the gamble you take leaving one up. It’s just huntin. Try not to get too wound up over it...

Can we see a pic of the deer???

Thats pretty funny. If he didn't want someone to hunt from his climber.......why didn't he take it out.
I'm walking through the publics and find a stand in a good location, I'm thinking "that was mighty nice of him" and climbing up if its unoccupied.
The sending the pic on Facebook is just extra...I like it.

First off, why would you leave a stand in a WMA with your name on it. Sounds like he's not very bright. Very easy way for Mr. Green Jeans to pay him a visit. 2nd, Why would he be pissed that someone hunted "his" spot? He's lucky the guy was nice enough to not steal his stand and just sent him a picture instead.

it is legal to leave your stand on public land if it is marked with your name on it in some areas

It still is crazy he found the spot, there was no parking, no trail, and thick as crap for the first part off the road. He must have seen us the weekend prior is all I can think.
So you think you're only one that's willing to scout?

You better get there super early on opening day. Same way with duck hunting potholes in public land. I've gotten to my duck whole at 3am before on opening day.

We have had people lined up for two days now for the duck opener this weekend. Literally a line of trucks at the ramp rotating who is staying for 5 days before the opener. There is no such thing as a secret spot.

When I used to hunt Tensas I was lucky enough to find a pretty decent spot.I hunted out of a climber but I didn’t leave it on the tree.I would take it down and hide it by a log and cover it with palmettos or a branch on my way to the stand.
After a couple of years of people hearing me shoot, other hunters zeroed in on me and had me surrounded and ruined it. Couple of years of not seeing any more deer I quit going.

I was there for opening weekend. Had to deal with a few of the old "I've been hunting here since 1985" guys who decided to climb 30 yards from me. Wouldn't have been a big deal since they he was downwind of me but he decided to get down at 7:15. his 4wheeler was 15 yards away from mine.

I got LAMBASTED on a Washington State duck hunting forum when I mentioned I wouldn't hunt in someone's blind and wouldn't set up near someone if I knew they were there....on public land. Similar situation. The consensus seemed to be that its public, screw 'em. I try to treat other people how I would like to be treated. Apparently that is counter to the way most folks look at hunting on public land.
The whole looked him up on Facebook thing though....that's over the top slob hunting. Its bad enough to hunt another man's stand but then brag to him about it????
I ain't above boom scouting and if you leave a pile of shells or dove carcasses near a hot dove field I ain't above adding the location to my list of places to scout.....but I saw you there it would be your spot and I would give you a wide berth. I would probably give it up if you arrived after me unless you acted an arse about it and then I would probably stay that day and get there early and often...but if you came up and asked how I was doing and if there were any birds and then mentioned you had hunted the spot last week or something, I would either offer hunting together or I would offer to move on, especially if there were more than a couple of you and hunting together wasn't practical and definitely if you had a kid with you. Apparently this is not the norm on public land these days....

Definitely not hunting his stand... not sure how long it's been there or what condition it's in.
Probably not hunting that area because if the guy shows up to get his stand it might ruin my hunt.
Might try to find some travel corridors nearby that the deer are using to get to that area.

The worst part about leaving stands out is you Mark a spot as a ‘good’ spot.
This may not be the case LOL. I have a hunting buddy who will clean up a blind SPOTLESSLY and the transport the spent hulls etc to another blind....and then proceed to partially pick birds in the other blind LOL. Never fails that other people think, hell, there's was massacre at this blind sometime recently. He does the same thing with dove watering holes. It works.
I think I found one of these spots last dove season. I found a spot LOADED with fresh empty hulls....20's and 12's. I set up on that spot twice and shot 4 birds once and 1 another time LOL. I didn't think about my buddies doing it the first time but I did the second time....

Get a buddy and a ladder, take the stand 20’ up climb down the ladder while buddy holds it.... then set up a camera so you can get a reaction shot from the guy that left the stand.

What part of "public land" does your friend not understand? He's lucky the guy didn't take his stand, too.
