Wife asks why I want a gun, what's the correct response?

A:? I want to be able to protect my family if a home invasion scenario arises.
I have a 5 shot revolver for very close range protection, but I want a semi auto pistol and a couple of clips. She doesn't understand why, and really doesn't even like the revolver being in the house.
I think I should just buy it and ask for forgiveness. Tell her I already have my birthday present and teh secks will be more than enough to call it even. Doubt that last request will be met, but at least I could try.

Teach her more about the safe use of guns. Take her to the range and practice so she is not scared of it. Me and my wife took a CC class together, neither of us CC on a regular basis, but it made her much more comfortable around our handguns.

Tell her it's to keep her in line and report back on her response

Really? You're the man of the house and you do what you believe is the right thing for you and your family. You earn a living and provide for your family and if you want a damn gun go buy the gun and tell her she doesn't have to like it. Does she always cook what you like? I'm sure there a plenty of other things that she does that you don't like, amirite?

Tell her you want a gun because a whole cop is too heavy to carry.

You should meet my wife- we're building a new house and it's gettting a built in gun safe.
Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum.

Make sure you buy a quick-access pistol safe when you buy the gun.
Then, after you have brought them home, explain to her that you are doing what you feel is necessary to fulfill your duty to protect your family.

Yea! I worry I've waited too long to make the purchase now, the gun I want is discontinued and in the last week I've seen the NIB ones disappear off of the imternet. Ugh. Shouldn't 'pulled the trigger' when they were still available. I want a P2000 357SIG. May have to settle for a 40 cal.

Because guns are awesome. Is there any other reason needed?
