To hell with the dent, truck #1 needs to spend some dough on a set of Interco Boggers so this shite doesn’t happen again.

On New Years day morning about 15 years ago, I had a brother of a good friend knock on my door. He had walked for miles to get to my house. He had his truck in a reverse of that same situation. Entire bed was in the water. He had been being stupid and just buried the truck going across a stream.

We ended up having to chain my truck to a tree to winch him out. I couldn't get traction on the ground and all the wench would do was pull my truck towards him.

I know I got a lot of down votes on my previous message, but if I'm the one stuck and someone damages their truck getting me out then I'm going to pay for the damage.

I am with you, #1 owns it all. He should not have been where he was and it was a “hold my beer” moment for him.

They woke me up at 2 AM and wanted me to be #3. I told them to wait to get the tractor in the AM. I went back to bed and they continued the cluster.

I get your sentiment, but cause in fact...duty/risk...however you slice it, it's all on 5.

Anyone that gets their own truck stuck, is responsible for it, not just the first guy. The other drivers should have done better at assessing the situation.

I understand that.

But if I'm asking someone to get me out of a jam then I'm not going to have them having to pay for any damage that was caused to their truck, even if it was the 5th person I called.

Now, I could see a scenario where #1 called a friend he trusted, #2 then had to call another friend, etc, etc and by the time you get to #5 you have a complete idiot who #1 doesn't know and wouldn't trust to do anything. In that case, if I was #1 I wouldn't pay for the damage for someone I didn't call.

In the situation you’ve described above, maybe so.

In the OP if these guys are buddies then you chalk it up to having a good time helping a friend. It’s just a dent. If they aren’t friends and are on some trail, then you all accepted the fact that your truck may be damaged the second you got on the trail and it’s every man for himself.

#5. He chose to hook up. He chose to yank.

No man would/should expect another man to pay for damage to his truck in this situation. Each man looked at the scenario and said to himself "Self, my truck can pull that man's truck out of that hole".

Each one figured his ride was the savior of the previous one's predicament. Not one of them volunteered thinking they could not pull the other.

I imagine we're talking about a bunch of teenagers not knowing the physics involved. Any experienced BAW would recognize the limitations and consider alternative solutions.

It all boils down to pride. Each figured they could do it, each failed. #5 in particular used a faulty or inadequate strap. He should have known better... and now he does.

To a point, but really only #2 gets a pass.

From #3 onward, it is just 1 overconfident idiot after another who are beginning, in my mind, to fit the description of "assumption of the risk". I kind of let #2 off the hook because the whole "Good Samaritan" thing.
