Would have been caught in federal waters, no?

No one is going to jail over this. He’s just gonna get slapped with a fine and probably have his license suspended for a few years.

Oof, "Captain's" and Charter's facebook is wide open. Looks like a criminal record too.

Someone more experienced in Charter... does the licensing expire June 30th like other licenses? So it's likely he operated for a year in violation?

6 pack (captains license) is good for 5 years from date it’s issued.

Saw somewhere someone said it was expired since 2019, not sure how true that is though

No one is going to jail over some expired permits or non existent certifications or whatever.

Y'all remember the dipshit charter captain out of Fourchon that let a group catch 900 red snapper? That guy didn't go to jail. He still runs his charter business to this day....

Aren’t fines put in place to be a deterrent? If you don’t want to give them your money then I guess you have to go the lawful route. Not that hard of a decision.

And yet some people are mad at GJ for seizing the fish. If you buy stolen property unwittingly, the cops still seize it. I don’t see where this is GJs fault. This “captain” needs his arse whipped. Whether in a court of law or at the boat house, he needs to get the shite beat out of him for being a POS.

or insurance
ridiculous that he did this and he’s lucky a fine is all he will get

it’s a tough way to make a living (I couldn’t do it) but at minimum you need to be compliant as you are responsible for the life and limb of the passengers on your boat.

That's exactly what I thought until a watched a few episodes of "Louisiana Law"
I was blown away by how low the fines are to any of the commercial fishing law breakers. In saw an oyster guy with 100 sacks of oysters and no harvester license for the last 10 years (IIRC) FINED $400. I'm would guess the license cost more than the fine for those 10 years so He wins. Another oyster guy with no harvester permit was fined $25 dollars, but any individual with a Deer infraction had to pay thousands in fines and restitution. This just seems backwards to me, if you are making a living doing it the penalty should be stiff enough that it would deter any future infractions. Just my .02

Yeah that’s true. I guess those are also subject to what the judge wants to impose as a fine. I’m sure that some of those charges carry the possibility of higher fines that aren’t always given depending on the circumstances

I mean I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m just saying they aren’t gonna throw you in jail. Just take your money.

It's like me before someone broke into my house: "If I ever catch someone in my house, I'm getting my Glock and turning them into Swiss cheese."

Actual situation arises and I ran screaming like a girl. Passed my truck with my gun going 15 knots. Never even thought about it.

People do funny things under stress.

Had a shady looking guy follow me from the parking garage at my apartment complex at 2 AM. I never spoke to him. He starts beating on my door loudly at 2:30. I stood there frozen and thought I am not opening the door. He left and I’m worried he might come back. Then a hour later it hit me…I have guns in my apartment. I got one out just in case but the drug addict looking guy never came back.

Not to mention that every single one of us who works or is in business and abides by the rules, pays our fees, pays (confiscatory) taxes, and tries to be “legitimate” is getting a huge “frick you” from a person like this. It’s a personal affront to everyone who is trying to do it right. frick him dead in his trashy arse. Sink his boat and throw him in jail after you financially ruin him for life.
Or let the rest of us operate the exact same way with no consequences. I’m just sick of always trying to do the right thing and getting my “good faith” shoved up my arse.

the oyster mafia, protects the oystermen at all costs.... Fines for sports are meant as a deterrent... Fines for commercials(including guides) are meant as a nuisance. The commercials are ONE voice when dealing with WLF - hence the low fines.

case in point a commercial catfisherman in des allemands over the course of a decade had nearly 100 charges for fishing violations yet stayed operational....

a sport with 100 violations would get a 5 year ban.

A sport with 3 violations goes to jail.

A sport with 10 violations goes to prison for multiple years and loses his hunting and fishing privileges for life.
