Used to be able to get one sans optics for $330+FFL fee. Not too long ago either. There are a lot in the 5-700 range.

How much do ARs normally run? Are they all in the $1200 range or are they cheaper than that?
Before COVID you could get a solid no-frills rifle for at or just below $500. Before last week those same rifles (if you could find them in stock) were generally selling in the $650-$700 range. Now I doubt you can find one at any large retailer.

In January you could get an AR for $400. That same rifle is probably $900 now. You can still find cheaper rifles than $1200. You can definitely find rifles way over $1200 as well.

because it is direct impingement rifle it requires more cleaning than your standard gas piston ar-15.
DI rifles are gas piston rifles too, your cleaning a piston no matter what. Cleaning is a part of ownership and a DI AR is a hell of a lot easier than a M1A, Garand, or any number of other semi-auto platforms.

I've got about $500 in Bass Pro gift cards hoarded, any chance of getting them to order one within a few weeks? I've also got a buddy who builds them and sells them to a shop in Huntsville, maybe I ought to get him to build me one and use my gift cards on ammo if available

Based on what I've seen it may be a while on a completed rifle from a manufacturer. It looks like parts are much easier to find at the moment so building a rifle and using the gift cards for ammo and accessories may be the best bet if you want something now.

CDNN, online.
Have bought a rifle and a pistol from them and had them sent to a pawn shop in West Monroe that only charged a $20 FFL fee.

I just bought a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Thursday from Waggenspack guns in Gonzales. He has a few to chose from. The prices have skyrocketed since all this mess started but I decided to get it aany way. 699.00 + tax.

+1
Currently building a lefty AR for the wife and have found it easier to find parts to assemble than a complete rifle. Then again I’m hand picking all the parts so take that for what it’s worth.
