I dont think I ever caught one of those. Mostly river bass. Rock bass I guess. Maybe largemouths? They have red lined eyes. The small sunfish were so fun to catch and beautiful

I would fish south of hwy 550 to wrights bridge. You can probably get to the river from where wrights bridge(wrights road) crosses the river. Geographically south of Union church and just north of mccall creek. Find on maps and scout it out. I believe the old wrights bridge is out or got replaced however

I believe the real name is Shadow bass but the old folks in Tunica call em calicos. They tell me back before Tunica Hills wma was public, they’d fish Tunica Bayou with white maribu jigs and catch them in the spring when the water was the deepest.

Man, this is a tough question.
If I was forced to make a pick it would probably be reef species in the florida panhandle. I've caught ~10 species of fish on the same slow pitch jig, and I know there are others possible (cobia, african pompano, wahoo have not been checked off yet). That mystery of never knowing what just bit is alluring to me. Checked off a Mahi and a Toro Snapper this year
I love tuna fishing in venice, but after about 2 of them I'm whooped. Didn't enjoy fishing for specs in venice as much as I thought I would. It reminded me more of catching bream off a bed. A productive panhandle grass flat is probably number 2. Early April sunrise with clear water, no wind, and a tide thats ripping out.

I don't think I can say I have a favorite place. I just love to fish and enjoy both conventional and fly fishing.
I've been very fortunate to fish in some great places. Mexico for tarpon on the fly, NY for trout, MT on the middle fork of the Flat Head, Florida Keys for bonefish, etc.
Couple of places that stick out, Dixey Bar in Alabama for bull reds. Fished it with my dad and brother who are both gone now. And also with a very close group of friends and one of them are gone as well.
As mentioned, the middle fork of the Flat Head float trip with my dad. We killed them. I couldn't say how many we caught but it was a bunch. When we stopped for shore lunch, I fished for whitefish in a small riffle. Caught 30-40 in a short time. But my dad had a ball.
Took my son to Dogwood Canyon when he was 10-11 and his 1st fish on a fly rod was trout that was probably 5 lbs. Could not tell you how many fish over 5 lbs we caught that day.
Went to the little Red with my Dad, brother, nephew and son. I spent more time with my son catching crawdads with my son that fishing and I loved it. That was my last trip with both my dad and brother.
A few years ago we were vacationing in Long Boat Key, FL. I was booking a trip to go offshore with my son. I asked my daughter if she thought she might care to go. She answered immediately and emphatically, YES. I was shocked as she never really cared about it before. We went out about 40 miles and hammered them. After the trip, she was beaming and said that she'd always wanted to go deep sea fishing. She'd never told me that. I told her that had I known that we'd have gone way before that.
Last, I have a lake on my land. I don't fish all that much, but some. Typically spend 15-20 min before I leave catching a few. Going with my son out on the boat now is one of my favorite things in the world.

If it didn’t take so damn long to get to I love fishing Shell Beach. Launch and campos and take the kayak across MRGO to the marsh.

If you like Matty, you'd love Mansfield. It's like Matty was 15 to 20 ago years before all the crowds. Pre freeze was spectacular, like 30 to 40 fish over 7 pounds in 4 week days of fishing in January and February. This last year was great, not quite that good but with the new limits I think this coming winter could be that good again.
