Bengal roach spray got rid of mine in the bathrooms and in my shop.
Pretty sure they are breeding in the space between top floor and bottom. No idea how to spray in there. Every time I change a bulb in the closet lights, the globes are filled with them.

Orange oil and water, drench mound and if you get it on the queen or queens the mound will be there just no ants. 3TBS per. Gallon, can find it at most nurserys that sell organics or you can make it self by steaming orange peels.
This works and if your kids and pets walk through it no big deal.Remeber you have to kill the queens or they will just take what ever ants are left and make a new mound.

Unscrew you light fixtures in various rooms, the electric boxes above should have various holes in them to allow the wires to pass through, stick the straw from the can and spray in several directions. It may not kill the entire colony (?) but it will at least lay the poison around their exits.

As others have mentioned any product that has the active ingredient acephate in it will do the trick.

If you're not worried about killing grass, use clorox or sprinkle the area with any scouring power that contains chlorine.

You will need two shovels and someone to help you.

Locate a second fire ant mound.

Each person scoop the top of the fire ant mound and swap with the other mound.

Sit back, drink a beer, and watch them kill each other

I treated my yard with Roundup and all the grass died but I still have tons of ants. I must have gotten a bad batch or something.

Let the kids play with the corn meal, clorox, gas and shovels, but when they get tired of spreading the mounds out get some Talstar and it will be over

Fire ants are indestructible forces of nature and can not be killed. (really) You kill one mound and another one will pop up somewhere else, as they are territorial and as you kill off one queen and her colony another will just move in. However, with that said you can keep them off your yard and in your neighbors if you so desire. The best I ever used was the over and out stuff, just kill the mounds and put it in spreader on a hot day with no rain for a day or so and they will leave you alone for 3-6 months. Whatever the hell is in it they don't like.

Also, after living in the Fire ant and Gnat capital of the world let me add this. To get rid of gnats and bugs like that you use this damn granules that smell like pickles or vinger when you put it out. Cant find the damn name but ask at the feed store, only thing that ever worked. I am not talking about fruit fly gnat, the damn biting blood sucking ones

Gasoline. Walk up to the hill. Insert a piece of re-bar into the center of the hill as deeply as possible. Place a funnel in the hole. Pour in about 1/4 cup (more for big hills)of gas. Remove funnel. Gently close the hole with your foot. Queen dies...hill dies. They do not relocate. Does not kill grass. They've already done that. A gallon goes along way.

There is a product that is called Top Choice. I bought a 50lbs bag from John Deere Landscapes a few years ago.

It's granular. You put out a little on a mound and it will wipe them out in just a couple of days. Never seen anything like it and there is nothing out there that comes close. It's pretty expensive but it last forever and it works like nothing else available.

You can broadcast it over your yard also and it will keep them from returning for at least a couple of years.
