I'm talking about as far as hunting and fishing as well as camping and stuff like that.

I went to Bass Pro yesterday in Denham Springs to check out a few things. Great place with a great variety of stuff.
Cabela's used to be my favorite but since Bass Pro bought them out I think they are deliberately making them much much less of what they were before. The one in Gonzales is very lacking and I can't help but wonder if it will eventually be converted into a Bass Pro or shut down completely.
Funny that I saw more Cabela's t-shirts and hats than at Cabela's for sale at Bass Pro.

Recently I went to the Sportsman's Warehouse in Slidell place. Has a little bit of everything for outdoorsmen. It's not a Cabela's or Bass Pro but it's a nice place. We need something like it in Metairie.
I thought it was cool to see them selling traps for fur bearing critters. You don't see those everyday.

I guess Academy would qualify but they're more or the "all sports activities" store.
Dick's doesn't rank anywhere as they ARE a bunch of dicks!

For me I guess for the experience Bass Pro comes out on top now but I do like Sportsman's Warehouse.

What's your favorite?

Academy. Has what I’m looking for and usually cheaper than even the internet, and there’s one like every few exits on the interstate. Bass pro is OK but overpriced, I will shop there occasionally if I see they have something I can’t get anywhere else.

Another vote for Academy. Reasonably priced merchandise, and lots of it to select from. I've bought a good bit of stuff from them over the years and have never had an issue with anything I've gotten from them.

academy no question
for whatever reason their store brands (game winner, magellan etc) are better quality than many brand names at a much better price. shite I buy all my work clothes and shoes there too

Another vote for Academy. They will have what I'm looking for most of the time. However, I'll say this much. The one on Louisiana Ave in Lafayette is pretty terrible at stocking fishing line and terminal tackle. They always seem to be out of the hooks, weights, and string that I need.

Being a N.O. resident, my former go-to sporting goods store was Security Sporting Goods and the one I frequented the most was the one on Carrollton Ave. down the street from where Costco now sits.

That place was like going back in time with their merchandise crammed into that building like it was. I hated to see them shut down, but shite happens and things do change.

As a kid, I lived in the Lower 9th Ward and the go-to store for me back then was Puglia's Sporting Goods on the corner of St. Claude Ave. and Flood St. located across the parking lot from their family owned grocery store. I'm glad they are still in business and will go to their store on Vets from time to time.

I can spend half a day in Bass Pro or Cabela’s looking around...which usually leads to spending more money than I had planned to.

Most outdoor purchases made from Academy though since closest BPS or Cabelas is an hour away

The hardest thing to find at academy is specific weights of tungsten. My theory is it gets stolen way too much and their inventory system doesn't catch it or they quietly let it stay out of stock cause they do recognize it walks off.

Locally Academy all day. But Im a big fan of Simmons Sporting Goods in Bastrop. The Cabelas/Bass Pro is kind of a show. Simmons and Academy are about selling the sportsman what they want and need. No flashy carp.

I could spend days in a cabelas, but the hour and a half one way ride sucked.

Academy is the only place around.

It's the only big store we have. I like it, wish ours was larger and had better selection but do like their pricing and quality of stuff they carry.

Absolutely. And I use a lot of #3 and #4 Trokar worm hooks. They’ll have a thousand of every other size and brand, but they seem to never have those specific ones.
