small stores in Many, Leesville, and DeQuincy called Nichols Dry Goods.
They also have one of these in Winnfield.

academy by a mile.
went to Cabelas this past week. within the last month it basically has been turned into a bass pro. all bass pro merchandise on the inside and now all tracker and mako boats on the outside
they had some 19ft lowe stinger aluminum boats in the clearance center. thought the might be trying to get rid of them. nope. $33k boat only discounted 5k. not to mention every thing in the boat is dry rotted. seats, carpet and console would all have to be replaced

Yea Nichols in Dequincy is hard to beat on quality gear. Half the store is setup for Hunting, fishing, camping, and outdoor cooking, the other half is setup for women's home goods and nick-nacks. We walk in and I head one way the wife another. Sometimes we are in there for 30 to 40 minutes before we meet up and try to justify what we are buying to each other.....they get a couple my checks every year. Oh yea, they have lay-away plan too!!

I'm going to go with Simmons sporting goods in Bastrop. I go up there several time a year. The pricing is fair, and usually have what I need.
Cabela's use to be my go-to-store, but the recent merge with Bass Pro has a lot of Cabela's branded hunting gear being discontinued. Casual clothing makes up 90% of the clothing they sell there. Last week I didn't much if any Cabela's brand hunting gear. I knew the merge wouldn't be good for Cabela's, but I never visioned it to be so horrible. Worse thing to happen in the outdoor industry IMO.

I'm going to have to try and stop in at Simmons next month when I'm up that way for a guys weekend of fishing, eating and drinking. Haven't been to Bastrop in a good while.

Simmons is good also.
Bacon tackle in Shreveport has those frog skin topwaters, soft plastic straight tail lizards, and old school stuff.
Nichols, been to the Leesville, LA location when I needed things while at the camp and did not want to donate $10 just to walk in Toledo Tackle in Many.

It's the only big store we have. I like it,
That's my big store go to. They actually have stuff I need locally. However, I do most of my shopping at a place called Bob's sporting goods in Longview, WA. They have everything anyone would need in terms of hunting or fishing in the NW.

Well now I know I'm not
Going to academy for last minute stuff right before season.

Academy gets most of my money because of convenience. But there is a huge difference in the type of inventory that each location stocks. They do a pretty good job of knowing what that area will need. So you can’t gripe that the B.R. Location doesn’t have the saltwater lure you need but the coastal location doesn’t have a pallet of deer corn for a good price.
