What’s the best duck call out there?

I haven’t duck hunted in 16 years and I’m hoping to be able to make a trip to Kansas this year. I don’t even know what I did with my old calls, all I know is that they were sure shot Yentzen calls.

RNT Alpha II & Haydel’s DR-85 are my go-to’s…

It probably doesn’t matter but start practicing now. Them Kansas boys will tear you a new one if you don’t call well.

Depends on where you are hunting. The best is having two or three different mallard calls for different situation. (timber, open water, fields, etc.). I have some handmade ones from a local that I use and some old 90s duck commander cut downs and an echo something. I also have a redleg.
I have learned these past few rough years of hunting in La calling too much is bad so I try to not call all that much. Kansas is probably a different story.

Always liked and had good success with my Yentzen Sure Shot duck call.

You’ve come to the right place.

RNT Mondo LTS or RNT Rockin R
737’s are good and so is Echos. Pretty much personal preference. My dad still swears by the old Haydel’s calls.

You need something loud. You gotta be able to blow that “hail call” real loud so them mallards that are cruising at 8000 feet will look down and see your flock-a-flickers and mojos. Then you need something to hit em with the hen mallard call and the feed chuckle. You cant really limit yourself to one call. You need four or five. And a good lanyard to hang them on.
And remember: loud! You gotta cut down on them to really get em working.

I’ve tried just about every call out there and would have to say the acrylic yentzen sure shot one 2. You can do pretty much everything with it. It’s expensive as hell but in my opinion worth it…. If only there were ducks around to hear it

I like my Duck Lander LT Hand cut. It is loud and whiny, good for high wind days. I also have a Buck Gardner Swap Meat with the single reed in it. It is more raspy and quite.
If you are hunting with a guide, let them call. Sit back and enjoy the show.

If the DR-85 won’t turn em your way, sit back and fry some eggs and bacon.

Keyhole Olt. Same as it was when you quit.

If one can master the wood duck call it can come in handy. Many don't think they will respond to calls but I've seen them swim into the decoys by call persuasion. However, I do not have that skill sadly.
