I run the same setup and get 28/29 with myself and gear and usually 25 with 2 guys.

3 blade prop running about 3800rpm is my sweet spot.

99 percent of people are full of shite when they tell you what they run.

But you should plane with 3 guys and some gear but that doesnt sound like enough motor for a console boat.

I have a 37 on a 16x48 and it can touch 30 in 4 inches of water, empty. It planes with 3 guys and gear, but maybe is going 22ish.

I know what you are saying in general and I hope you are referring to that and not the guys here. Additionally, when I quote speeds I’m running, it’s gps speeds. Not trying to instigate anything, just saying when I quote speeds I’m not embellishing, I’m trying to help someone out.

Yes he should be running faster, earlier poster that mentioned carb cleaning and a tune up is 100 percent right. I'm not saying anyone here in this thread is lying about their speeds and everyone now adays has a GPS speed app or a garmin on the grab bar. But when you post highest speed your GPS records, it's misleading. Yeah you might of hit that on a mud flat, with the wind, with every little factor perfect.

I have two guys in my camp running 1854s. One has a stock 35 and it's a bare bones empty boat without a console. It's a 22 to 23 with 3 guys and gear kind of boat.

Another one has same size boat with a side console. Its had a 35, 44 and a 40 on it. Was a turd with the original 35, 44 mud buddy ran great, current 40 is pretty good. With the 40 its similar performance to the same size other boat without console.

Both are high side, tall tran boats with storage hatches.

Name of the game is being light, most everyone I've seen with big barges has mods for load carrying ability. They all run good empty. ..

People with mud motors always embellish. They also have a woman that's a 10 and that their packing more heat than they really are....

All of this reminds me. I should really look at a stage 2 for mine.

Uncle J 18x48 open layout mod v pointed bow with a GTR 25 hp XD with Delta mods level 2-3. Upper Texas Coast on the ICW has some places with 25hp restriction so it looks just like a stock 25 with a BPS Q exhuast.

I have 10 hours on it all with just me and 50 lbs of gear. This is with the standard 2 blade 11" 10 pitch powertech prop.

I'm typically seeing 18-20 mph @ 3300-3400 rpms. RPMs won't go higher until every once in a while I'll see it shoot up to 3800 rpm and speed up to 22 mph. It feels like the boat just catches and the bow drops and motor digs in. I'm using a free speedometer app and don't have a depth finder yet to know for sure, but I'm guessing those higher rpms are from running over a flat.

I have this prop in the shop to get cut to 9" and add some cup as I'm facing a 25hp and 9" prop limitation. The big question is what happens when I throw this 9" prop on?

With the smaller prop will my rpms shoot up and not grab any water dropping performance from the 11" prop?

or with the rpms up and added cupping will it grab enough water to match or exceed that performance?

Did I mess up with the mod v bow? too much rocker pushing back on the stern even though its flat until you get up towards the bow? I find best performance trimmed two pushes down from all the way up.

maybe I'll run better with someone sitting up towards the bow?

She'll still hunt and is fun to run, but just curious what more I can get out of this rig. Now just to put the bottom on my pirogue and build my scissor blind for November.

With the 25hp and those mods you should be seeing better rpms and speeds than that. The limiter is set at 4750 rpms so I don’t know why you are getting such low rpms. If that’s the stock prop your performance should be better than that. Are going WOT with about 1/2 to 1/3 of prop still in the water?

Call it what you want.. More than welcome to come take a ride- Not hard to acheive those speeds on an 18' boat with the right prop and the power to do it..

I don't see a total, what did that set you back?

I cant imagine running 35 in one of these boats. 25 feels like your screaming in the dark. Rarely am I running full speed on my way to hunt.

I run 29-30 all day long with my gtr 40 but it would go a lot faster if it wasn’t on a barge. 18x54 gdsd boat.

Around $3000 with exhaust, worked props, parts, labor etc. I mainly did it for load carrying capabilites and getting on step as I wasnt necessarily worried about speed. Most guys at the lease run longtails and speed isnt a factor because youre not worrying about "beating" anyone to a hole like on public land. My other boat was also an 1848 with a stock 37 and exhaust and it struggled when loaded down. Once I could get it on plane it'd average 26.5-27. New motor is a world of difference, twice the power and will roll..

Its the stock prop. Thats at WOT and then later I typically back off a little once running. Its hard to see the prop, but there is somewhat of a rooster tail. I've found the best speed at two pushes down from trimmed all the way up.

I have seen it shoot up to and sustain 3,800 rpm at times with no change in throttle and its magical. Throws a higher rooster tail and speed goes up. I just can't replicate on my own at will so I think those occurrences are depth related.

Out of the water I squeeze her up to 4,200-4,300 rpm. Maybe I am governed down too much thus leaving those 400-500 rpms on the table? Idles around 1,100- 1,200 rpm.
Its a 22" transom including the hunt deck, which is what Gator Tail lists for similar sized boats on their site.

I'm wondering if its load distribution. So far its just been me with not much up towards the bow so maybe its squatting back too much unless on a flat where the bow gets pulled down. Could be a mod-v bow effect.

I'd have to talk to Delta to see if performance engine governors are turned down from the Vanguard factory setting before I mess with the governor.
