Saw they're adding what looks to be a northbound extension at the big curve and widening the bridge once you turn left at the curve.

Where the hell is that northbound extension going to?

To the 4 lane. The new causeway over the marsh.

It’s going to connect to the four-lane in Golden Meadow I heard.

Extending straight north to Golden Meadow bypassing leeville? I always heard that was the plan; sure looks to me like it’s what they’re doing.

Yep, the elevated road is supposed to eventually connect Fourchon with Highway 3235 in Golden Meadow. I think the very long term plan is to get a 4 lane all the way to Hwy. 90 but I don't see that happening in my life time.

Those poor businesses
Gonna ruin them like all the ones on the old hwy. 1 before the 4 lane was put in. Any Idea when the project will be completed?

I thought they were beginning the extension, which I believe is supposed to intersect with 3235 somewhere near Golden Meadow, but it looks like they're actually just improving the 90 degree turn right there and getting ready for the extension once funding is secured.

According to this anyway: LINK

Seeing how much progress has been made since the winter... my projection would be 2025

Texas would have it completed in 5 years.

thanks for the link. That's exactly what it is looking like when we passed it.

BTW, another side note. Is it still recommended to keep your receipt for a long time if paying the toll by cash?

I remember a while back they were sending people who paid cash letters to appear in court for toll jumping.

I read the other day that the governor wanted to set aside I believe $180 million from BP payment to put towards finishing the whole causeway.

EDIT: Just found this link where they approved $150 million

they are not building the extension to golden meadow. they are widening the bridge at the 90 degree turn so large trucks can turn easier. you can thank the great engineers at LADOTD for that 15 million dollar mistake.

they want to extend the bridge to golden meadow but dont have the money to pay for the bridge they have now more less 10 more miles of it.

Does anyone know or how to find out the amount of money that has been collected from the toll since the opening of it. I know it should be public records. I would love to know that amount.

one of my old neighbors is an auditor for the state. i don't know how much has been collected but it is not enough to pay for it. every year dotd has to dip into their general fund to pay the difference. and i don't know why i am being downvoted in my other post. it is a fact that the turn was built and designed too tight for 18 wheelers.

It was frickin idiotic to build that turn and expect a bunch of 1/2 ton trucks pulling 20' boats to make it, not to mention big trucks.

I hope it connects north of golden meadow. The cops there are insane with the tickets.

while true, it's not really that hard to not speed and use turn signals. Think about how many times you've complained about bad drivers on that stretch. Likely not much, I know it isn't for me. Everyone seems to behave as they should.
