I remember dumbasses in highschool talkn bout how badass a full metal jacket was cuz that's what the military used. Still hear that stupid shite from time to time.
Prolly from that movie where that Marine ate one in the locker room. Forget the name. He was obsessed with his "weapon" and spoke himself about FMJ.

IMHO, I would redesign the Tokarev with a double stack magazine.

The Tokarev is kind of a copy of the 1903 Browning FN with some smattering of 1911 design included as well.

The 7.62×25mm round beats the hell out of both .45 and 9mm in every respect.

Super-reliable. Low recoil. Extremely effective, even with FMJ/Ball.

Though the M9 is a shitty military weapon, I think it is an absolutely fantastic civilian and LE weapon.
-High capacity,
-Never stove-pipes like a 1911,
-Very reliable when not banged on a deck really hard (can break the trigger bar).
-Impressive range / accuracy in skilled hands

I can't shoot the M9 worth a shite, but that's just me.

I bought a 92FS as my first "real" pistol bigger than a .22. I got it because I had wanted it forever and I thought it looked great. It shot well enough, even in my girlish hands but the gun is just too damn big for what it is. For that reason I can't imagine carrying it as a sidearm for miles-long hikes. In addition to the other fine suggestions I think the Sig SP2022 would be a good choice and as cheap.

What's also amazing is how far spring technology has come too.

Mecgar makes a Beretta 92 mag that holds either 18 rounds of 9mm or 13 rounds of 40S&W. That makes it quite impressive in terms of capacity.

My factory Beretta mags that came with my gun are supposed to fit 17 rounds in them but I can only get 15 in there by hand and can BARELY get 16 in there using a mag loader. I tried to load round #17 and it bent the metal bar on my mag loader. The factory Mecgars are far superior to the factory Beretta mags, even though surprisingly they make them too.

the beretta has been a reliable pistol for the forces. the most those guns get shot is training and qualifying. no need for more. they are always ready cause the gunners routinely maintain them.

speacial duty and opts servicemen and woman use the 226 and for a damned good reason. the most reliable. i did tons of training in the navy with the berretta 9m and own a sig 226 equinox and sp2022 now.
