Well Well Well...Crossbows aren't helping after all

Crossbows threatening bowhunting
Couple take aways:
-Crossbows are not recruiting new hunters. Turns out it is a bunch of rifle hunters using them.
-Manufacturers and Bow shops will continue to take a hit because cheap crossbows are everywhere and you don't need a pro shop.
-States are going to have to shorten seasons, because of effectiveness of xbows.
I think we are going to see a push by Mathews, PSE, Hoyt and others to rethink crossbows' inclusion in archery seasons.

I just can’t stand them. Are they badass? Yes, but I just feel they take away from what archery is about.

Maybe have a rule they can only be used by someone with a disability or over 65?

I am shocked at their sales numbers. Never would've guessed new sales were basically split between box/crossbow.

I think more archery hunters should be using them. The number of guys who pull their bow out two weeks before season and practice until they can hit a pie plate at 20 yards is ridiculous. Would rather them shoot a crossbow than continue to wound deer.
I actually started with a crossbow and transitioned to compound. I started deer hunting at 30 and just happened to hunt a zone that only has 5 days of gun. Without crossbows I wouldn't have started. That said some of the new crossbows I hate with a passion. If people would limit shots to ethical distances I would never say a bad thing about crossbows.

my niece was able to shoot her first deer because of a crossbow rule change.
I personally have one sitting in closet that I never use and I enjoy shooting my compound much more than cross bow

What does that mean? She couldn't use a gun to get her first deer? Couldn't use a crossbow during rifle season? Glad she wasn't born before they were legal during archery season...she may not have ever killed a deer.

I have no dog in this fight as I only rifle hunt. With that being said if it keep even a few people interested in the sport and spending extra money on license I have no problem with it.

Tried getting my dad to use one since he has trouble pulling back a bow. He just said frick it, and waits for muzzle loader

I hope they get outlawed. If you can’t use a compound and get a deer within 40 yds to kill it, then wait for rifle season.

I love my crossbow. Compound prices are too outrageous when I can buy a crossbow and be shooting accurately at $250. Their own faults.

I have no problem with anyone of any age using a crossbow, if they have a health issue preventing them from being able to use a bow during archery season. I think someone in good health that is using a crossbow is just pure out to lazy to learn how to shoot a regular bow.

That can be said for bow and gun hunters as well. It seems more along the lines of compound guys look down on crossbow guys. If that is the case then pick up a recurve if it is about archery.

If a recurve guy tells me shooting compound is easy compared to traditional, my response would be "you're correct, but it beats using a crossbow"

Compound vs crossbow we are still looking at 40 yards max effective range for most. Yes I know there are super crossbows and guys who can hit at 80 yards with their bows. But for most people 40 should be the max. The biggest difference to me is the amount of time to stay proficient with the weapon and having to draw the string undetected. Without crossbows my son would have 5 days a year to hunt vs a 5 month season. Much better chance to develop a hunter with a crossbow.

I am tired of hearing about trashy crossbow hunters wounding deer.
