Model 307

Base model includes cerakote, fluted and threaded barrel, with a triggertech installed and a decent looking stock that takes AICS mags. Lots of chamberings including 7 PRC and 280AI. Averages 7.5 lbs with sub-MOA guarantee. $1199 MSRP so hopefully closer to $1000 on the rack.

“Builder” action is a 700 clone with m16 extractor, MSRP $750 and comes cerakoted with fluted, tool-less, threaded handle bolt. Seems like this will fill a hole in the market where you had to buy a shitty Remington donor action and get it worked on, or jump up to $1500+ for something custom or a pre-barreled Bergara.

A chassis version is also available for the precision crowd.

They probably just got some money from me assuming the action gets good reviews, and they claim they’ll do a lot of the manufacturing/final assembly at their new headquarters in Wyoming.

That looks like it will be a great seller.

Is Weatherby making the actions or Howa?

Said that they will be made in Wyoming at the Weatherby HQ.

Curious as to the material in the action.
Also the bolt design is interesting, video I saw said it was a toolless takedown.

Saw that email the other day. I have a vanguard and a howa. Probably end up trying one of these too.

Spiral fluting is the big rims of the rifle world.

It cuts weight and increases surface area of the barrel to dissipate heat, and I don’t mind it aesthetically. Whether it’s to your or my taste it’s what the market wants which can be said about prettymuch every standard feature on the base model rifle, which I think is cool of Weatherby to figure out and offer.

Reduces weight so I can mount my 3lb 5-knob scope baw.

He’s talking about bolt fluting, no? How much weight does that save? I did it for looks and am not ashamed to admit it. No measurable functional improvement at all. Rims!

Hopefully it will take shouldered profits and some barrel makers took up for it.

if you're gonna skeletonize the bolt handle, why not go all the way ?

I'm sure hard-core Weatherby loyalists are asking ... WHY ???
The bean counters are optimistic about increasing profit and sales.

that action looks like every other semi-custom 700 clone on the market today: side bolt release,
over-sized bolt knob, scalloped action with manufacturers name and model, spiral fluted bolt.
Wby definitely wants a piece of the custom action market, but IMO joined the party 10 years to late.

Wby seriously dropped the ball with NO small bolt face offerings for the .223, .204, and varmint hunting enthusiasts
Using a Wby small BF action with aftermarket parts and you could build a custom 17 Fireball, 204, 223, etc ... resembling this for $1600

That's exactly what I thought. The rifle looks good, I guess it really isnt a big deal to offer the action if you are building rifles.

Mack Bros has their Evo stainless action for $775 and its a 700 footprint.

I wont complain though, all these options will keep prices down hopefully.

Sadly, McMillan and Defiance both sold out to Bob Beck who immediately raised the prices on stocks and actions. Defiance actions are now $1600, and McM stocks are pushing close to $1000. I know Glen @ Defiance and Kelly @ McM would not agree with the 25% price increases; however, they are no longer the business owners. I shoot Kelbly products and you can still get an Atlas Tactical for around $1000. I just built this 22-250 "shorty" to shoot crows, pigs, and coyotes

I’m no expert on custom actions but the impression I’ve gotten from window shopping is that’s about where they start, but they all seem pretty decked out too. Maybe I wasn’t looking in the right places but Weatherby seems to have taken a crack at just a no frills action with better than remarms QC at that lower price point.

Is that a fiberglass stock with a wood pattern? Pretty gun.

carbon fiber material laid out in a 2-pc. mold, as the exterior is a gel-coat made of colored metal flake from House of Kolor.
This color variation is called "Copper Penny" as Kelbly no longer makes stocks.
They have focused on producing actions since the demand tripled after Defiance sold.

Looks like 270 Winchester will not be available with this rifle. Only 270 Weatherby Mag. That blows.

Looks like a killer deal for a factory made rifle. Wish they would had shorter barrel lengths for the some of the calibers, simply due to suppressors becoming more commonplace among shooters. Still very impressed and would love to shoot one.

Yeah, but the 270 Win is available in the Model 307 Range XP. OTOH, as someone already mentioned, none of the models will be available in the 223 size bolt head.
