Not seeing waterfowl loads restocked online or on the shelf. I am hearing it is because the manufacturer’s line are tied up with target loads; and they will begin (or began) shifting their lines over the closer we get to the season(s).

Also stopped into my local sport shop and he says everything is back ordered and he has no updates on deliveries for dove or duck/goose loads.

Getting nervous at this point on how to make it through 5 months on reserves. Ordered some high dollar stuff today as a fallback because they promised delivery.

Gotta be some Canadian outfits sitting on a pile of loads.

What’s the ammo situation look like come sept 1 ?

If you don’t have it, don’t expect to hunt

Well, I should be okay since I have plenty left over from the shitty season we had last year.

Bought a case of the only crap I could find at the end of last season just for this reason. Sounds like I'll be shooting some Winchester Xpert #4s all season.

Read on refuge forums that the ammo situation won’t be back to normal until spring of 2022? Like what others posted, have plenty from the mediocre previous seasons.

It’s May. The shelves usually don’t have steel shot on them anyway. Not much of a market for steel shot in May. Now if the shelves don’t get product in late august then it might be something to worry about.

Ok I’ll be that guy, who buys duck loads in May? Stores and therefore suppliers don’t stock out of season stuff very routinely. You see any Christmas trees at the hardware stores? I wouldn’t be sweating duck loads honestly.

I normally buy mine in Jan/Feb for the following season. I also watch online for sales in the spring. This gives me better discounts than buying at the beginning of the season.

Btw..passed by a Christmas store today. They were fully stocked.

The hardware store in Camden, Al had cases and cases of waterfowl loads back in February...I'm sure they are still there.

Were they BBB or T size? About all I see in 12 gauge now.

No ducks, so it won't matter.

I've got two cases of steel shot in my closet for years now. Haven't been really able to duck hunt the last 8 or so.

Might be a good time to break them out to start bartering like cigarettes in prison.

Haha

Boss Shotshell Podcast on Shortages

Boss Shotshell founder is on the above podcast talking about the shortages. It sounds like a powder based shortage base at the powder manufacturing level due in part to government and non-shotshell ammo demand. While Boss has some product in stock, there could be out of supply in a few months.

Boss is a few bucks more, but I have been very happy with its performance and knockdown power.

What I gather from Ramsey’s chat: if you are a multi case shooter and hunting the season end-2-end; you better have all you need by October. Supplies may not be there once we get into the season.

What we saw last year in late December and January (shell shortages) is going to hit sooner this season.

I just ordered a case of Boss 20 gauge #5's. Super nice people to talk to. I previously shot #3 steel. Had 172 pellets in 1&1/8 load. Copper plated bismuth load of #5 has 221 pellets(ballistic equals). I figure $100 more or less is not important in the big picture. Around 50 more pellets per shell will mean more head/neck hits. Shells shipping today at no cost.
