I'll shoot a hog whenever I see it whether or not I plan on eating it. After ruining my smoker with a big nasty boar I dont plan on keeping any hog with nuts.

I do however think it is wrong to purposefully gut shot them. Kill them as quickly as possible. If you gut shot them because you dont want to drag them off you are a lazy pos

On a large scale hog elimination strategy I don’t see that being very feasible for someone who works full time and has a family. I don’t have hogs to deal with but I don’t see anything wrong with cleaning as many as you comfortably can and leaving the rest. I kill mice and don’t eat them - same as any other nuisance animal

the dead hog does not care if it is eaten by buzzards and other scavengers or humans.....

nor does mother nature.

on some days last year I saw more hogs than all other game combined....and I killed my share.....and a few other people's share... when it was applicable - i at least took the tenderloins.....

a dead hog is far more beneficial to our ecosystem than a live one.

I have 3 game cameras up at the farm in Tennessee. I keep them up all year round and check them once a month. I dread the day that I find the first hog picture on one of them. The farm is 11 miles from the Alabama State Line and there are hogs in the counties of Alabama that border Tennessee. Basically a mater of time. I will have no issues with killing them and not harvesting them. I killed a spike years ago and almost had a group of hogs take it from me while field dressing it back in the early 80's. They started fighting over the guts when I pulled the rest of the deer and got it into the back of the truck.

I agree with you. I have killed and cleaned and eaten many hogs. Every one of them delicious.

I will not associate myself with anyone who will intentionally gut shoot an animal, pig or not, it's wrong. If you don't want to mess with it, fine, shoot it in the lungs and leave it in the woods but don't make it suffer

They are a nuisance but it's not their fault
Kill them humanely

Never keep a big boar. Once that meat hits a hot black pot, you'll throw it all away. It's ruined.

I am a firm believe in clean kills. Any "hunter" who intentionally subjects an animal to a slow, agonizing, death are douches who give the anti-hunting crowd more ammunition.
This. I think it is morally wrong to intentionally gut shot an animal. Anyone who does that is a real POS in my book, even if the animal is a nuisance.

including the black pot...

i would guess that every hunter here who was taught by an elder was taught to eat what you kill. this is the rule, not the exception among sportsmen. invasive pigs though are something entirely different; the fact that they are edible and sometimes very goof eating does not mitigate the damage they cause. they do not belong here, and if we dont kill them as efficiently as possible, they will displace other wildlife and severely upset the natural order, upon which we as sportsmen depend.

so, shoot them and leave them, or shoot them and clean them...but shoot them regardless

"The state" isn't exactly the most moral and ethical group of people either, but that's a separate debate.

I respect that, but don't take that strong of a stance. Also, I am shooting no matter the angle even though I am not intentionally gut shooting. There will be no ethical dilemma for me on whether or not to pull the trigger or release.

I could not care less how they die just that they die. They are no better than a mouse or rat that I poison and goes off to suffer and die. Some of you can go cry me a river.

So I tend to agree with you there, Alex. I will shoot them even at bad angles but try to make the best of it.

What I’m referring to is someone with a broadside shot aiming for the guts

I did some soul searching on this very topic and came to the conclusion that those before us that taught us to be stewards of wild game never faced the dilemma that we face today.

Hogs are just like coyotes and ground hogs.

They only do damage.

Some people think the same way about deer. Especially, when its they crops they are destroying.

I have plenty of good places to dump them. Id rather control where they rot rather than have one run off and die close to one of my other stands.

If I have time, ill clean one. If I don't, Ill dump it. Either way im gonna do my best to drop it in its tracks
