go with a model with a little more arse.

The gun fitting him is more important than the weight in my opinion.

Definitely get a youth model. If it’s too light, find a way to add weight, but it should fit the shooter.

You opposed to a AR in 6.5 Grendel?

Use a 16 inch barrel to start while he is young to cut down on weight and increase maneuverability. Then as he gets old yo could do and 18 or 20 inch barrel if you wanted.

I bought my then 10yo son a Browning X Bolt Micro 7mm08.

It's been a great gun and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I have a (Sulzer ) 6.5 Grendel in an AR platform, as well as in the Ranch Rifle. If anyone wants to borrow for a kid to try out, I'm open to it.

In the same boat.

But a compact or ranch gun would still have an adult LOP right?Different than an actual you rifle.

Depends on the model, some of them have shorter pulls. But ultimately that's how I ended up picking a rifle that the LOP could be adjusted on.

I sold a .243 and got a youth 7mm08. It’s been perfect.

Son’s first deer was with .243. We found the deer but blood was minuscule. 7mm08 has been much better.

I'm looking at the Howa mini action in 6mm ARC with the carbon stock. A little over 4.5 pounds.

Was his first deer man, is there a right and wrong way to paint a face after a first kill?

if you are anywhere near lafayette, i have a tikka lite .243 with a leupold scope on it.
i have no need for it. wouldn't mind giving you a great deal so your young man could enjoy it.
