Watched the video on YouTube.
Yep US Marine Inc boats: USMarineInc Site
Those boats are so much fun. Water Jet Nozzles, can stop within one hull length from full speed, can turn within hull length, supercharged inboard diesels that are like 500 hp.

Didn't click the link, but I'm guessing SBT-22. I saw four in file, blasting down Pearl River Wednesday afternoon of last week. (Three were maintaining what appeared to be a consistent interval, but one was lagging. That coxswain needs to tighten his shite up!)
Seriously, I'd hate to be up to no good and see that coming at me! They look like they could drop the hammer on you in a heartbeat.
'Merica, frick YEAH!!!

When we're you in? I can remember as a young kid going down there to watch them do maneuvers on the Pearl. My dad was a part of SBU22 although I don't know at what capacity he served.
Had to be very late 70s or very early 80s. It's some of my earliest memories so I had to be 3-4 yrs old. I can remember my dad taking me on the boats when they were docked at Algiers too.
I probably did serve with your old man. I was a Gunner's Mate on the PBRs '82-87. Eventually went up to Kodiak, Alaska with NSW Group Det. 1. (training detachment)
Promotions within SBUs sucked and I didn't want to leave Kodiak, so I lateraled back over to Coast Guard in Kodiak.

We had M2 & M-60s for the most part. Nothing compared to the GAU-17s they use today. Plus, they now have 6 deck gunners instead of just 4 like we had. Training is now far more rigorous as well.

I can remember this patch in a shadow box picture frame with a pic of one of the SBU boats, hanging on the wall in his workshop.

Did he have a call sign? Depending on the circumstance, mine was...take a wild guess...Coastie. They also called me Puddle Pirate

I know one of the guys on that seal team...spoke with him about the video...it was not a pleasure cruise, it was a training mission, however it was not intended to imply a target of US citizens is being trained for.
patrolling civilian canals that may help them in a scenario that may occur when "deployed" is just staying at the top of their game...

Like I said, I was very young. I'd imagine he was a reservist because he was already on with the NOPD by the time I was born.
I'm not sure what his capacity was. I'll have to ask my Mom. He passed away in 1991 when I was 15 so unfortunately I can't ask him.

Nope, but I would stay under the limits.

lived there my whole life until going to college and never saw anything like that. We would get the usual sheriffs patrol on weekends and coast guard by The Dock checking safety reqs of boats going in and out at the lake. Never saw anything military like.. I will have to call my mom and see what's up.

Did someone say drill weekend?
Id hate to have seen your faces when we went to the rifle range for drills. 300 Marines, stopping at the gas station with M16s on the bus.
We even shot at Palo Alto once, that was a while ago. CO landed a cobra out there, pretty freaking cool.

Seen them on the river and way back in Wastehouse over the years. But in a neighborhood? I guess we will see Humvees next with 50 cals coming to hoods soon.
