07Tiger,
I bought a lot of UA stuff for my son while he was growing up, but I refused to buy any for myself because it was so expensive. Having said that, I've got one pair of UA cold gear that my wife gave me for Christmas. It's thick, tight and VERY warm. I only wear it when it's really cold, like it was this weekend. I could stay just as warm w/ separate layers of polypro and woo like I used tol, but a single layer of UA's more convenient. If someone's looking to save a little money, I've bought a LOT of gear through the years from Sierra Trading Post. One can get good discounts on their factory discontinued/blems/seconds.

Long Johns have been working for people for 100 years. What makes them all of a sudden not work? You're probably the dude that swears you have to wear camo when deer hunting

UA is expensive but very worth it. The cold gear is warm and light weight..will only wear when it's close to freezing. If you do not rip or tear it, it lasts a long time.

Buy Patagonia capilene. They make thin stuff all the way to expedition weight gear, it's super durable with indestructible seams. I'm sure it's higher quality tha UA.

I too have several UA pieces. I love a more athletic cut and like others have said, it's not very bulky. I highly recommend it.

What are some good Merino wool brands?

no one is saying they dont work, but if u sweat in them your hunt may as well be over. UA is more about the warmth without the bulk. And moisture wicking, which keeps you dry and cool. I have the ua ayton suit but have the firstlite merino base layer. I dont mind paying if the quality is worth it, and it is

UA is an inferior product compared to many of your hunting clothes/exploring companies. I am guilty of jumping on the UA band wagon and spent a G or more on it, only to give it to family or garage sale it. Great marketing scheme but when you are out in the elements for a considerable amount of time you want the better products they are tried and true staples.

i like to buy under armour products cause it increases my hunting swag thus i'm a more confident hunter and have better chances at killing that buck.

UA is treated nylon, no patents or anything, it's all about 30 million in advertising. You can buy the very same treated nylon or better yet better garments for halff the money.

Do enlighten us please.
ETA: I'm not saying UA is the best all, end all for cold weather hunting clothes, but it just makes for better discussion if you bring some other comparable brands/items to the table other than a general/blanket statement.

brass2mouth.....you seem to dipshitery too enlighten. You figure it out or just keep buying UA.

I've been a fan of UA for quite a while. Really like their hunting stuff but I haven't bought much of it due to price.
I will say this, we bought UA football uniforms at the school where I coach, NOT a fan. We have sent several jerseys back and they can't seem to match our jerseys when they replace them. Not very good quality at all.

Half the people that say UA is overpricd offer alternatives that are more $$

Solid post, thanks for the discussion. Its not like any of us here are possibly looking for alternatives and real world use from people that may have tried comparable items to give an opinion on. Kind of the entire purpose to the board.
I think you're confused.

Just because it is overpriced, doesn't mean something that works better and is more expensive is overpriced.

I've enever heard hardly any person complain about UA base layers etc. some people have an axe to grind cause it's fashionable and marketed more

True, I've worn Patagonia when I was in northern Iraq and was impressed with it.
I've been wanting to try some arcteryx (sp) gear but I don't want to spend that kind of money to end up replacing it.
I've also heard Sitka makes some nice stuff but they too are especially proud of their gear.

I use Redhead base layers. And I hate Redhead. It's complete shite. But it's cheap and does the job for me when it's layered under quality outer garments.
I will never buy UA because of the advertising. "We must protect this house" Geared towards a different demographic than myself, not interested.
