After the 13.5" and 15 was turned down. Now I understand that there was a 12" and 15 with one over 19" inches also proposed. This was also turned down. Now they are looking to have a new proposal by end of the year and the earliest anything will change will be mid 2024.

Just make it 12" and 15 and be done with it.

One or the other - not both.

It's my understanding that 13.5" will never pass. Too many bait shops with live shrimp depend on the recreational fisherman that will come down for a weekend trip that are not searching out big trout.

1 fish over 19" will also not work. Live croakers are bait shops money makers and that will essentially shut that business down.

I'm just an out of state person with no clue about what should be done.

But making conservation decisions to manage a resource based on bait shops? That sounds backwards as he'll.

Most politicians in Louisiana are avid outdoorsmen. They're not gonna burn bridges. The main problem is nobody see a shortage of trout. It's only a few people with agendas that think there's an issue

Oh no, pogie boats are absolutely an issue.

No time for trout now, they have to go to work trying to do the same thing to redfish. The public surveys on sizes and creel limits are already out there.

Maybe they will go for a double.

They could just go for the same regulations as calcasieu lake. Already used in part the state and accomplishes a bunch of the things they want.

That is one fix for a lot of issues, from what I have seen. Those protein companies have way too much financial influence in Louisiana.

Is there a limit to how many times you can limit?? Can anyone just catch their limit go back to the camp, drop off the fish and then do it again???

I don't think you can do this with ANY wildlife/fish. It's technically called a daily bag limit and a possession limit. Posession is the most dailies you can have at any given time.

Make it 13 inches and 20 per day. If you whine about that, you suck as a person.

Who is this "they want"????

IMO and many others that fish Calcasieu Lake [Big Lake], were not in favor of this change that was made over 10 yeas ago.

Before the change, Big lake was know as a place that produced many Speckled trout over 8 lbs each year. It has been many years since anyone has reported catching a Trophy trout in Big lake.

Also, since the trout limit was lowered to 15 fish, most anglers repot that the majority fish they catch are 10-11" long.

Lowering the trout limit and allowing the Oyster fishermen to destroy most of the Oyster reefs has had a big negative on the trout population.

If you want to make a change, here is a suggestion.

On guided fishing trips, any fish the guide catches must be turned loose. Only allow one limit for each person that pays for the trip. No more allowing the guide to catch his limit plus a bunch more, so that the clients can take home there limit + the guides.

Most customers probably won't catch a limit, so this will have a big impact on the amount of trout each year.

The science says 14 inches is where you need to be to be at 100% SPR

Like most everything else in Louisiana, it’s too late. The damage caused by allowing those boats to operate unchecked will never be fixed.

As for most things in LA, “it’ll never be ready in time”.

Anecdotally, fish numbers have seemed to be greatly reduced in the past 5 years, but maybe I suck at fishing- probably both.

Welcome to Louisiana, where our lawmakers worry more about the commercial $$$ than they do about the actual species.

I grew up fishing in the easy 12/25 limits of La. in the 80's but have been in the Hou/Galveston area since the early 90's.

It was 15" and 10 here forever until recently going to 15"/5 on the upper coast and a hugely controversial 15"/3 on the lower coast.

The fishery here is laughable when compared to Louisiana. Without hardly any marsh to speak of, less number of guided trips, and no pogey boats, its apples to airplanes. That said, fishing West Bay of Galveston exclusively, the number of 15" plus trout caught here has always been more plentiful than in my trips/reports from Louisiana. But, surprising to me, the number of significantly larger fish has increased exponentially since the lower bag limit. While it was rare to catch a 10 fish limit, it isn't rare at all to catch the 5 fish these days, and unheard of to not have at least one 20" fish when you do.

I have always believed a larger minimum length directly results in larger fish overall no matter which area being discussed, but I was a little surprised to see even larger fish with the even lower bag limit. Obviously this is anecdotal as well, and I do target larger fish as a rule, but I haven't heard any different from the dozens of people I know who consistently fish in this area.
