How clueless can a company be?

With 171 retail stores across the United States and Canada, Bass Pro Shops, a retailer that sells equipment and gear for camping, hunting and fishing is under a bit of social media heat for selling a $1,600 Winchester rifle (Model #9422) that has “Cherokee” on the packaging as well as imagery of members of the Cherokee Nation being led away by soldiers on the Cherokee Trail of Tears.

Hey, white man kicked arse and that rifle helped. History was done. Wasn't there, so I see no problem.

Cmon fish! That's wild for a company to be that stupid! Hell just put a few cowboys with some cacti in the background and call it a day.

Nah. Let's use a genocide as the backdrop.

Seems like there is a fine line between erasing terrible atrocities in history and using it to market and sell product

Nah, but it seems like a celebration of a pretty dark thing in American history. It doesnt offend me but I can understand why it would offend some folks.

The only thing they should be ashamed of is asking $1,600 for a .22lr lever action.

The ToT predated that rifle

Is that new or out of the gun library? Looks like it's been handled.

No six pack. Just a small bottle of Dr. Tichenor's.

They were made about 40 years ago, they have collector interest though not like a mint pre-64 would fetch. People outraged over this are ignorant of course.

Clear case of delayed outrage I suppose. Marketing was a lot different 40 years ago when panties weren't so easily wadded. I'm sure Winchester's goal was to sell limited edition guns, not to celebrate the ToT.

There are dozens of things made to commemorate the ToT; coins, knives, wallets, motorcycle rides, etc. The museum at the Oklahoma part of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail has a gift shop. Get your Trail of Tears commemorative shot glasses and key chains...

I am just so tired of butt hurt people over things I had no control of. At my age, I don't think I could be butt hurt about anything. Butt hurting is way out of hand these days.

First I agree with all of this....X infinity BUT a ToT rifle???? I'm not politically correct at all but that's just bad taste under any circumstance....can you imagine Ace Hardware advertising African American rope or Sears selling Jewish Ovens?

You guys do realize that these are no longer made and are considered collectors rifles?
And was intended as a TRIBUTE to those that suffered during the trail of tears.
