I have heard conflicting opinions and would like to know from the "experts" here. What should I use to fill low spots and level my lawn? Ideally grass would grow quickly so as to prevent erosion.

How large is the lawn? If you put down river sand that has not had the weeds killed, it will be loaded with weed seeds.

Is there a way I could kill them when it’s spread in my yard?

I wanna get a hold of the sand golf courses use to fill divots. Wonder where I could find some.

if you use sand, buy clean mason's sand.
most materials suppliers will have it

do not use river silt (sand)

Torpedo grass doesn't look terrible if it's cut. I wouldn't mind taking my chances with it because I keep my lawn manicured anyway. After a couple years of treating it it should be eliminated anyway, correct?

Call your local course and ask where they get their topdressing sand from. You can also go with mason sand.

everytime it gets wet or rains river sand flows to the low spot and self fills and levels itself as long as its "close" to where its needed

use river sand to fill and level, then put an inch or so topsoil over it to speed up the grass growing in

Quinclorac will stun and eventually kill torpedo grass after repeated treatments but can’t use it in st aug.

Quinclorac calls for applications every 14-21 days. It won’t fully kill it but will keep it at bay if applied correctly.

Real top soil has an organic component to it, and will reduce in volume. Sand is great for fill.

quick hyajack: how would river silt be in a garden? Not too worried about weed seeds as garden will be heavily mulched

I made the mistake of bringing in a bunch of river silt to do some leveling and the torpedo grass took over every square inch of ground that river silt touched. Get some sterilized soil or sand, it’s been heated up to kill all the seeds/organisms.

You don’t understand torpedo grass. It’s not just some weed. It’s the devil and will eventually be everwhere.
