2 years ago I downsized to a midsize. Went with the Frontier. No complaints, other than the heavy arse steering. 3 inch suspension lift, and added a spacer to level it some. I like the way it looks. I never cared for the old Frontier body style.

quote:I need mine to do all those things…I sold a GMC Sierra and bought a Jeep gladiator. The bed is pretty small but with an adjustable rack I can carry anything I need and it tows a trailer or small boat just fine. Whether it’s a “truck” or not I don’t care. It’s got 4 doors, seating for 5, an open bed with tailgate, 4wd, and does fine on the interstate
Do you need to tow, do you need 4wd, etc. Is it a commuter that needs to handle a trail in the fall or is it strictly for hunting/towing?
I wouldn’t trade it for a frontier or ranger or similar

Why no love for the chevy colorado in here? It's a good looking truck imo, and seems to get good gas mileage. My dad bought one a few months ago for commuting, and being able to throw stuff in the bed from usual home depot runs, carpentry projects, etc. and he seems to like it so far.
Obviously it's not a full sized F-150, and he he didn't get 4x4 or any beefy towing packages, but for what most people use trucks for nowadays, he seems to like it so far.

4 cylinder turbos
I like my 2015 Colorado with the v6 and it's almost time for another. I don't think I want a 4cyl turbo. Consider a 2022 with the old reliable v6.

Nissan Frontier is at the top of the list currently imo. Mostly due to cost and reliable motor. Yota now using an unproven turbo and is expensive as shite.

I have 23 Ridgeline AWD. Tows my tracker 170 boat fine. I get better gas mileage pulling it than my Silverado 2500 did driving around town. The AWD system is great. Love the trunk in the bed. Has a V6 with 290HP. I get 25-27 on interstate. You can get one loaded out for 48K.

People will dog on the Ridgeline but once they dunked that abomination of the first release... the new design has been pretty good looking.

Im on my second ridgeline, had a 2012 and got a 2024 this yr, tows my 20ft aluminum boat just fine and very comfortable. Second gen looks better. Had 2004 taco and first gen ridgeline had more room, power and was a better truck for me. I don't offroad and need a truck for medium towing and carrying a dog around to hunt. They are all the truck I need, until the taco I had full size gms and not going back to a fullsize

Just be aware the GM made trucks are having major transmission issues and the parts to fix them (transmission valve body) are all on backorder. Your truck will be in the shop for months.

May pull a small trailer at times with some building materials or furniture finds. Mainly gonna be to haul what I need at that moment and for daily driving.
What i would love to find is an old (late '80-'90s) Mazda extended cab, like a B2200. Always loved those era Mazda trucks.

I agree. A friend has a new one and it's an awesome vehicle for the kinds of things most people need a truck for-- and yeah, that trunk is a cool feature. And because it's a Honda, it'll go 20 years without a thought.

Unpopular opinion but I really like the Gladiators, especially Mojaves. Still N/A V6, 2.5 Fox remote resi shocks, hydraulic bump stops, wider axles, high clearance fenders, 1" taller ride height, reinforced frame etc. Easily fits bigger tires, the 8 speed trans in them are reliable. They are a little rude and crude, but most people are complaining about all the new frills so the Gladiator is kind of a throwback.
Only thing I will say is they look terrible without at least 35s, look great with 37s.

Drove a Tacoma for 247,000 trouble free miles. V6
Currently driving a F150
If Toyota does not correct their monumental screw up of doing away with the V6, next truck will be a Frontier.

man I absolutely love mine. It makes me happy and does plenty of work. I’ll never go back to a “truck”

Cool.
If we can skip the dick measuring contest, reliability becomes most important.
The nissan frontier is miles ahead of everything except the 4.0l tacoma... Which isn't available. The camry motor tacoma doesnt belong in the same conversation. And the newer turbo needs to prove itself first.
I swear even the imports are following the domestics and making shite too expensive and too complicated.

I got the Tacoma TRD Sport. I got between 11-12,000 miles on it so far. As of right now, I don’t have a complaint with the motor. Pulled my boat to the river a few times and pulled my 4 wheeler to a couple places. Had no issues with it. Drove out of state a couple of times also and had no issues. It’s got plenty of power and it doesn’t feel like a 4 banger driving.

Nissan Frontier V6 for the win.

I’m curious about this too. I know both Toyota and GMC are now using new 4 cylinder turbos, which gives me pause. I’ve had two Toyotas and I regret getting rid of them. They weren’t fancy but damn near bullet proof. I rather the looks of the GMC better that the Toyota
Dang, my next vehicle may have been one of these. But I don't want a turbo 4 cylinder. Is there an option for the 6 cylinder engine?

Bought a CPO 2023 Ridgeline RTL with 3500 miles in September 2024 for $33K...steal of a deal and a great vehicle. I've driven full size trucks for years then switched to a Tacoma. Tacoma was a good vehicle but was slow, thirsty and rode rough. Ridgeline has smooth V6 power, decent economy and rides great. Not as capable as a body on frame truck but plenty capable for me!

Some trucks have their own category IMO and are very "car like" but with a truck bed.... if that makes sense. The Ridgeline isn't bad looking at all and I see that as a city life type truck, and I would even throw the Ford Maverick in that category as well.
