This Is Not a Banded Water Snake OR a Corn Snake

I know it's a Timber Rattlesnake aka Canebrake Rattler.
I was out scouting for a place to hunt hogs when I came upon this little lady. She was probably at least 4' long and as thick as my wrist. She never moved or rattled the whole time I was there taking photos. Somehow I escaped certain death and so did she.
One of the prettiest snakes I've seen in the wild.

No, but due to size, I suspect it was a female.

I've never seen a timber in person, how far north are you?

We have these everywhere at our hunting camp, I'm hoping to get one over 6' to get mounted with the rattle up and the mouth open with the fangs out. They are extremely pretty, but as someone else stated, they will bring the pain.

I'm in Huntsville. I saw this in the Bankhead National Forest which is in the northern 1/3 of Alabama. We don't have many, if any, eastern diamondbacks up here. I've never seen one. I've seen a few timber rattlers though (aka canebrake rattlers).

Timber rattler...
quote:Possibly this as you can never underestimate the cunning nature of the black mamba. I saw one recently camouflaged as Saddam Hussein. Apparently the snake did not know he was hanged.

I seen dozens of easterns down here, but never a timber. I ask because where I hunt, like almost all of south MS, is mostly pines. The darker easterns are easier to see walking, so it's not that big of a deal. That joker on the other hand...

Every one I've seen has been timid and slow to anger.

Snake gonna die first!

Nah. Just don't step on it and you'll be fine.
