Had a few really good trips here. Sad to see it go.....

Workers have begun to dismantle the big rig and associated wellheads in Ship Shoal 26, known to Terrebonne Parish anglers as the Pickets.

"They're pulling out every one of those wellheads, all those pilings and the big rig," LaCoste said. "That's really two separate areas that we count on to catch fish in the spring and summer."

bullshite the government is forcing the companies to take these structures down. Suprising there isn't any room for compromise here.

I'm actually glad it such a high value platform in tye sense that now the inshore guys will realize what the hell all us offshore guys are bitching about and maybe we'll start putting some real pressure on these idiots. Entire fields have been pulled up. Imagine running to the location of a platform during a tourney only to find it gone.

This is what I'm hoping for too.

frick now everyone is going to be at the mardi gras rigs now.

Aren't they already crowded? I haven't fished that area in years.

Taking out EI 73 also, one of the best night spots there is.

I thought the Mardi gras rigs were taken out too

they should be taken out. They are nothing but a hurricane away from washing up on shore. I know it sucks for some of the fisherman but they will survive

One of the most productive overfished spots ever. RIP pickets.

I'm going to assume you're trolling. Otherwise, please review your pipe buoyancy calculations, surface tension of sea water and displacement principles.

say what? This is not a very OBC statement.
They really should leave the subsurface structures in place. Very beneficial to have these man-made reefs in place, it only helps the ecosystem.

WTF that is some serious bullshite right there. There should be some sort of shell pile or other foundation that will still hold a few fish but damn that really sucks.
ETA:LaCoste returned after the platform had been removed, and the place was devoid of any fish because there was not a remnant of even the shell pad that had been there. WELL frick

So we dynamite the rig legs, kill thousands of snapper, triggerfish, grouper, AJs and coral, load on barge, ship to FL or TX and drop the rusty pipes off their coast to float up on their shores? Nice troll go back to soccer or gaming board.

The mardi gras rigs can get crowded but most people stop at the pickets from cocodrie so you can catch your fish at the mardi gras rigs before the cocodrie crowd gets there.

Very sad. I've caught huge trout there with croakers and also other species like Spanish Mack and redfish. What's the best fish others have caught there?

Caught some pompano out there.
