ok, I'm glad they're staying, BUT
IT IS bullshite THAT ALL OF THE OFFHSORE FISHERMEN'S MARINE HABITATS ARE BEING BLOWN TO SMITHERINES AND KILLING THOUSANDS OF FISH AND NO ONE STEPS IN. AS SOON AS IT HAPPENS TO THE INSHORE FISHERMAN THE UPROAR BEGINS

Settle down beavis. One does not eat an elephant in one bite, but rather one bite at a time.

We can thank the La. Shrimpers Association for fighting the state and feds to prevent them allowing the oil companies underwater structure in place or to sink it. They are opposed to such things because they will snag nets and lose gear.

Why is it in the interest of the oil companies to decommission and remove the platforms?
Posted on 5/29/13 at 5:18 pm to TJG210
It's not, really, but usually their leases require them too, and they can't (or aren't supposed to) leave abandoned platforms out there.
NOLA says a deal was reached with Apache to leave it. LINK
ETA - also a bunch of MMS regulations require that when they decommission, they must clear everything out and remove all debris.
RIgs to reef program was going to allow them to keep the sea-bed structure, but the shrimpers ended that.

They still are, there's a lot of guys pushing from this side. I know behind the scenes doesn't work for a lot of you young guys, but for the older in the crowd they understand.

You know, I'd be cool with the shrimpers dumping the FEDs off their nets if they didn't drag next to the rigs. But they won't come to table on anything.

They are very non-negotiable, and despite the eternal low profit in shrimping are backed by a shite load of money.

Right, no money in it just like the crayfish industry.

Turn your radar on and hit the big ping that would be the crane lifting the auxiliary structures.

I can find it above water, my problem is I didnt have it saved on my gps so that i could fish the shell pads after they dismantled it.

i can point you in the direction of every marked shell pad since 1980. let me know if interested. you should be able to find this structure on google earth or such, it'll show the lat/longitude.
as far as structures being removed, out of liability reasons they have to. any structure/pipeline installed since 1980 has to be removed upon abandonment.
