One of my coworkers bought a Feelfree Lure 10. He wanted a small kayak for ease of transport (while camping). I told him over and over to at least get a 12 footer, cause he'll eventually upgrade to one. His first trip out he came back complaining that the wind blew him all over the place and that it didn't track well.

Don't get me wrong, the Lure 10 is a nice little kayak for a 10 footer. But he's already talking about getting something else.

The guys in here have a lot of knowledge and experience. I'd take any advice under strong consideration.

yep, my first yak was a cheap Pelican SOT 11 footer. When I upgraded, I got a longer yak and it glides in a straight line. So much easier to paddle when you don't have so much wasted motion. You want more stability too.

I too started on a cheap 10' pelican many years ago. I hated how it tracked so much, I bought a 14'. It was a pain to use a bed extender, etc. I finally settled on a 12' on the third go round and find it to be the perfect length.

Here's a general question for everyone. My wife is thinking about buy a couple of boats for the family for my 50th b-day. How do yall transport yours? We've got an extended cab f150, with the short bed. We'd occasionally also have our travel trailer attached. The guy at the rack store quoted us between $1k and $3.8k on rack systems (which I thought was nuts.)

I stick a 12’ and a 14’ in the back of a short bed. Sometimes together

I went to harbor freight and got one of their $40 bed extenders that attach to your trailer hitch. You can definitely fit two 100+lbs kayaks that way. IF they are all the same make/model you may be able to stack them to fit more, but I have never tried that.

This could be a problem. I have not done it with a trailer attached, but I have carried two with the tailgate closed by strapping one end down at the front of the bed then have the boats angled up on top of the tailgate. Then strap from from high point of yak down to hitch. You may not have enough clearance.

Bed extender is the easiest way but that won't be an option for the trips he's trying to tow his travel trailer. And not sure if just laying them down in the bed of the truck would work when towing the travel trailer either because depending on how far the yaks hang out past the tailgate, they might be in the way of the trailer when making turns.

What about something like this? $279 rack should allow for hauling multiple yaks and keep them out of the way when you're towing the camper

I had already called them yesterday.

We have a fold over that rack is incompatible with.

After a little research this AM. I think were going with the foam blocks on the roof deal for now.

Thanks everyone.

That's what my dad does. Because he has a bed cover that is on hinges.

I’ve used one before and that is an agile little kayak. I bet it moves great with the trolling motor.

I've been using a TracRac for over 15 years. It's rock solid and can be mounted and unmounted in about 5 minutes. I've seen them pop up on Craigslist from time to time. I bought mine used off of ebay.

I'm about to buy my first kayak. I'm looking used since I dont really know what to look for. Are troller motors a good way to go? Pedal kayaks seem to cost too much and it's kinda hard to fish and paddle at the same time. I've found a 12' pescador online with a troller motor for $500. Seems like a good deal

Are you in Louisiana? Make sure that if it has a trolling motor that it’s registered.
