i fish rivers in the hill country often. a 13 is too long to navigate the rapids easily

Agree 100%. I've fished some small rivers in a 14' Cuda but I wouldn't recommend it. Definitely not for a novice paddler. My good friend fishes everything from open ocean to mountain rivers in VA in an Ultimate 14, but he's been paddling for years and would tell you it's not ideal.

And with the rivers I fish, peddle drive yaks would be a huge PITA unless you could take out the drive entirely and replace with a flat panel.

I am not sure yet. It will be either the Native Propel, Hobie Outback, or the Hobie Compass. I think the Hobie PA will be too heavy once I start hauling it on top of my Highlander. I once seriously considered the Jackson Coosa FD but I read that their drives were seriously inefficient.

You can demo my Outback the next time we go fishing again. I really like the Compass except for the Rudder control location with me being left-handed.

That sounds good. I am pretty certain that it will most likely be an Outback being that there are more being sold at any given time than the Compass.

I thought that was just early models? Mine is 1.5 years old and doing great knock on wood.

I had a PA14 and sold it because it was such a bitch getting in and out of the back of my truck. I can't even imagine getting it on top of a vehicle. I now have a slayer propel 13 and I like it a lot better so far.

Anyone familiar with Wilderness Ride 135? Found one with a trailer, aftermarket raised seat, and paddle for $800ish.

I’ve read several reviews. Most are positive, but many reference it’s weight (approximately 80 lbs) and the issues that come with that. If it’s too heavy, wouldn’t it be less nimble in the water and unable to get stable for sight casting? What else should I know about a heavier kayak?

I’m trying to catch trout, reds, flounder, black drum, tripletail, etc., in inshore fisheries. I’ll b fishing inshore/coastal artificial reefs, marshes, etc.

Thanks in advance.

One of the most versatile non-pedal kayaks made, IMO. I cant comment on the weight, but the stability is perfect.

$800 is a good deal for that package, although a trailer is unnecessary to haul that kayak.

So maybe tell the seller to keep the trailer and knock some numbers off the price?

The reviews online all seem positive, but for a few people complaining about its weight.
