The NuCanoes are nice. They have a 360 degree seat. They’re expensive though.

If their pedal drive was better I'd get the Pursuit. It has the best layout I've seen.

Soft side cooler on the bow, just in front of the foot pegs for me. With a little ice in there, the bottom edges of the cooler kinda droop down in behind the pegs and it holds in place perfectly.

Thinking about getting a yak but I have no idea where to start. Would like to keep it to less than $800. Don't plan on using it for saltwater or much open water and would be for bayous and possibly for use on some Arkansas rivers. Any suggestions on what to start looking for?

Everyone will say look for used. If it were me, I'd look for a used Wilderness or Native that has whatever layout you think you'd like.

Well, I'd like to know if there are certain parameters or features I should look for for those particular uses. Length, sit-in, sit on top, etc.

Nope, not much. From looking at it, seems wide enough to stand up in. Comes with a rudder which is nice. Raised seat is a must, which it has. I’m sure it’s a decent entry level yak. Rear tankwell seems small though but probably due to the 11’ length.
If I had $800 and was shopping for a kayak, would I buy it? Probably not. I’d be looking for used native/jackson/wilderness systems.

Just saw that KC Kayak sold out to Kysek Coolers.

Anyone know anything about the Vibe Sea Ghost 110?

I was told it will now be rotomolded and will probably be about 20lbs heavier. Wondering how that will go. One of the things I love about my KC is the light weight for paddling & transport.

I've seen some pretty good reviews so far. Does he have the 110 or the 130? I've been wondering if the 11 footer will be too small.

I would keep it to a 12'. It'll be the most versatile length.
My 2 recommendations would be a Native Ultimate 12 and an Old Town Predator MX. They're both at home on smaller bodies of water, stable enough to stand in, and handle moving water (like AR rivers) well. I have a Predator MX and love it. I float fish rivers primarily and it turns well and deals with the small rapids you'd be traversing with ease.
The Ultimate 12 retails for $949 and the Predator MX for $1299. If you wait long enough though you can find them both used for under your budget I imagine.
2 other "mixed water" boats are the Jackson Coosa HD ($1699) and the Native Slayer XC ($1499) that should really handle your needs well.
ETA: I don't know why Old Town kayaks don't get more love on here. The Predator XL & Minn Kota, Predator PDL, Predator 13 and Predator MX are all phenomenal yaks. Right up there with the Jackson, WS, and Native offerings.

Any good places to look for used?
Posted on 5/22/18 at 9:41 am to upgrayedd
Not used, but SierraTradingPost.com often has "2nds" or off-spec kayaks from Native, Old Town, and WS and a few others. There's no guarantee what will be there at any given time and the kayaks that do come available are sometimes in colors you don't like, but I got my Predator MX on there for under $800 and it was brand new except for a small scrape on the hull.
Otherwise, FB Marketplace, LA Sportsman, Craigslist and BCKFC Classifieds are the best places to look.

PnP usually has some used boats outside. May want to give them a call to see what they have.
