This whole spring has been a disaster. Hope it gets better soon.

PAC kicked my arse today. Had 1 bite the whole day. When will it get better
I fished the PAC for the first time in 10 years trying to scout for the mission six tournament next weekend. ( I was in my flats boat) I went west first and the water was nasty and high. Made a massive 30 mile loop west south then turning east. Once the day was almost over we got to around the sulfur mine, and the water was beautiful. Saw a bunch of fish, but nothing wanted to bite... caught one drum all day. Definitely a humbling experience on the water. Point being, You had just about as good of a trip as me!! Haha
FYI below is the tournament, kayak and boat divisions

Caught a few nice bream and goggleye in 2 oclock bayou. I ended up with about 30 that are big enough to fillet and about 50 that I'm going to make cut bait for trot lines with. The bream aren't bedding yet so it took me about all day to catch those. The bull gnats were just about unbearable even with a thermacell and deet. Next time I might bring goggles.

Who is headed out this weekend?
Wind looks decent on Saturday and I was going to PAC but now see that there will be a fly fishing tournament there.
Any guess on how crowded PAC would be? I've never fly fished before so entering the tournament is not an option.
As a secondary option, is the kayak launch at Hopedale Marina completed and open for business?

I’ve heard the launch was completed.

Not that anyone cares about paddle yaks anymore, but the Slayer has been updated,

quote:
The hull of the XC is designed towards cross conditions performance. A broad flatter hull not only allows river anglers to maneuver and control their boats in tighter conditions while sliding through shallow areas with a very shallow draft, but it also gives an incredibly stable standing platform for sight fishing. When it’s time to cover some ground, a flip of a lever drops a directional skeg to allow the Slayer XC to track on a line to the next spot.

That's a good looking boat. Love the drop down skeg. I know someone who has a native ultimate with that feature. Seems really handy.
Seems like the Slayer XC fits in the same niche as the Old Town Predator MX - a river friendly boat with exceptional stability and an open layout. I'd be super interested in repoacing my MX with that Slayer XC if the weight comes in low. I love my predator MX but the thing weights 80lbs.

Got the Compass ready to go for now. Added a sidebro and a Hobie rubber pocket. Put my battery in the front and wired up my Lowrance. Good to go for now.

If you ever tried one with a rudder installed you'd change your mind.

Isn't a skeg more for keeping you going forward in a straight line instead of getting pushed sideways by crosswinds on breezy days as opposed for turning/steering like a normal rudder?

Fish the current at PAC and you'll see why.

Anybody else fishing the MS Crooked Letter Kayak Challenge Saturday?
Posted on 4/28/18 at 8:49 pm to stoms
Ended up being the biggest yak tournament MS has ever had. Great turnout and great time. I weighed 4 trout so I filled out the stringer but couldn’t get that slot red and I grinded all day. Was fun though. Felt like I was a bite away from a shot all day.

I just started a new thread, without seeing this one first, probably should have just asked my question here.
Since threads can't be deleted, and you guys probably don't need my amateur bs clogging up these pages I'll leave the thread.
If any of y'all wouldn't mind taking a look and giving any advice I would appreciate it.
Thread about using Intex Explorer 200 on a 10 mile stretch of Class 2-3 water on Rio Grande
TIA
