Haven't been bit in over 10 years.

I do carry anti-venom with me. It works for 19 out of the 21 venomous species in the area. It doesn't work for coral snakes or bushmasters. The coral isn't aggressive and has a small mouth. The bushmaster is another story but they don't come out very often.

Property in Costa Rica. They call jungle tracts of land "farms". I do grow pineapples, but that's just for the monkeys and other animals to eat.

I think I understand why with Corals, but why with Bushmasters?

I've only had the property for ten years. I've never been bitten in my life by a venomous snake.

I think because the bushmaster isn't part of the bothrops family. It's also the largest venomous snake in the Western Hemisphere. I've never seen one in the wild, but they have been sighted on the farm by others.

Imagine getting bit by a 13 foot snake with huge fangs. Pretty sure that would mess up your day or end your life. I've been told there is really no 100 percent anti venom cure for a bushmaster. I've seen what thier venom can do and the necrosis it can cause. Its not pretty.

Very nice, Sparkplug. I've been wanting to go to Costa Rica, specifically to photograph herps.

Spilotes pullatus, common names - Tiger Rat Snake, Chicken Snake, Caninana, Tropical Rat Snake, etc.

I'm actually probably going to be in the market for a pair of them this summer.

Thanks, it's in Golfito, on the South Pacific about 20 kilometers from Panama.

Depends on what you want to do. Volcano Arenal is nice. Northern pacific coast has chill surfing and kinda a hip vibe. Manual Antonio has all of the animals you would want to see. Pavones has the third to longest left break in the world. Fishing is really good out of most pacific ports. More Marlin caught up north, more sails caught central and south.

Thanks for the snake ID, that's it. All the ones I've come across are pissed, but harmless as I'm sure you know.

You're more than welcome to come photograph stuff on my property. My farmer is a nature guide and can spot and identify stuff for you. He has eagle eyes.

Sounds like someone needs to organize an OB herp trip to Costa Rica.

I usually go down there every couple of months. Any month but October. I like the rain, but October is brutal.

Pretty pics! Mr. Dot thinks this is a Cloudy Snail-eating snake. He found one in Mexico but yours looks a bit different so the coloration must be unique to Costa Rica.

Are you sure that last pic of the green snake is an eyelash viper? It looks kind of different from other eyelash vipers.
