I am not going to spend $75 dollars on gas and $25 dollars on live shrimp to catch five trout.
You can catch more than 5.

most people have never caught 25 fish limits even when things were great. I am a better than average fisherman; I catch my fair share of trout, but I cannot consistently catch 25.
Interesting.

I can't tell if you were agreeing with me or slightly making fun of me in the other thread in reference to the oil spill?

If it is the latter have you seen any hard evidence that it has because I have not, just a bunch of biologist saying that it has without showing any proof. However I will take you at your word of you say that you have seen hard evidence of it.

re: The great trout debate
I think a 5 limit would cause a lot of heartburn unless there is a time frame given on when it would go back up. Same thing with 10, however I dont think many would have issues with a permanent 15 man limit and increase in size limit.

Bash me all you want but charters should be a different set of rules. A permanent 10 fish limit.

I was agreeing with you. Nature is incredibly resilient in that regard. I’d say all the dispersants and what not were way more harmful than the crude.

How do these guys have so much stroke? I would think the money generated by sport fishing would dwarf that of commercial oyster fishing?

I completely agree with you on that.

On another note how much is the diversion projects that are coming suppose to affect everything? I am pro diversion, just curious. Not anything crazy like this last opening correct?

I'be be curious to see if reducing the limit to 15 would eventually result in an increase in the size of the trout we catch.

I am pro-diversion too Greenhead. If they are managed correctly, they can be effective. Canaervon (that is probably not the correct spelling) is a good example. I do think that they could be a be more aggressive with it and still maintain salinity levels to please the commercial guys while building land.

Probably not, because the difference in the amount of people that catch 15 and the people that catch 25 is probably pretty low.

A size limit would theoretically help the size (even though there are a few vocal guides on westside of state that think we have too many small trout competing with the big trout and we should increase the limit!)

I believe they will propose that the limit should be lower than 15

Very intelligent people running the design of those that I have complete trust in. It’ll be the first attempt at a SEDIMENT diversion unlike say caernarvon, but I think it’s definitely a good long term remedy we need.

The guides should have a higher limit than the rec guys

The original mission of the WLF Commission was oyster safety and regulation. They oyster folks are deeply entrenched in the DNA of the WLF

Perhaps we should limit charter licenses; it seems to me there are too many charter captains out there.

This is probably a far bigger issue than the average joe who goes out a couple times a month.

No fricking doubt. also, all of the captains that allow the sports to catch their limit. These are the guys that are denting the populations.

You mean a lower limit right? Like permanent 10 fish per man.

nah, they do this for a living. They should have first dibs. Lower the rec limit to 15, keep the limit at 25 if you are with a guide.

most guides would rather 15 than 25....

Man I hope this is a troll.

Every commercial fisherman and guide needs to realize that they do not have more a right to the natural resources than the general public.
