I have a 10/12 on an 11wt. Haven't had it for very long, but it's been put through the ringer on fish that actually pull drag. I've had no problems with it and I love the reel. It's very smooth. It also clicks on the retrieve, unlike the NV-G series.

I have a 6/8 CCF. I haven’t used it in a few months but I love it in the limited time I’ve had it. Probably caught 20ish slot reds on it so far, so can’t say much about the drag. The good thing about the 8/10 is that it is compatible with the 10/12 spool so you essentially have 2 reels in one if you go that route.

How you baws feel about the Nautilus CCF-X2? Looking to upgrade to a 6/8 or 8/10. This will be mostly used for saltwater, but I'd like to use it in some freshwater from time to time.

I have two 6/8s and a 10/12. Really like them so far but haven't put them to the test on jacks or bonefish yet.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm leaning towards the 8/10. I would likely put it on a 8 BVK that I'm working a deal on.

I also have mine on a BVK. It’s a pretty sweet setup for the marsh. No complaints at all

Geauxlpost and I fished the mission six fly fishing tournament this past Sunday. We saw 50+ reds but only got a few to bite. They were super skiddish and just not hungry. We did end up placing 2nd in and I quote “ Louisiana’s largest fly fishing saltwater tournament” . Tito’s sponsored it as you can tell!

Didn't fish the event but fished the area. We hooked zero.

I feel your pain, that happened to me last week. I think its a combo of no tide and full moon that have the fish lock jawed.

I saw another skiff in an area I don't usually see them. We weren't seeing much worth casting to and the other boat didn't hang around. Figured we weren't the only ones struggling.

Go Fund Me - Lefty Kreh Foundation

quote:

Lefty Kreh passed away in March of this year 2018. We hope to preserve his legacy. We are raising money to purchase items from the auction of Lefty's estate and hopefully have enough to build a self-supporting foundation. The items purchased will be loaned or donated to organizations like TU, Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, The American Museum of Fly Fishing , IGFA, CCA and others to secure Lefty's Legacy

Putting this here in case any one would like to contribute.

Bump for rod questions.

What size rod should I pair with an Allen kraken 7wt-9wt for reds? 9' 8wt or 10' 8wt?

Who has the best prices of TFO BVK?

9 foot. Can't help you on best prices. I'd just shop around on google.

Any experience with BVK rod vs. Mangrove rod?

Yep. BVK has a lot more feel. Mangrove has a little more fighting power and is significantly slower.

Between the two I would pick the BVK hands down. You can probably tell from my posts in this thread, but I’m a huge fan of the BVK and I think it competes with its that cost 3x as much. The only drawback is its lack of fighting power and its tendency to break. TFO’s warranty is best in the business though so who cares if it breaks.

Thanks. Looks like I'll order the BVK and purchase a kraken when they're back in stock, they always seem to be out of stock when I go to buy one.

Will be in Sandestin at 5:30. I didnt get a chance to order any flies last week so I will swing by Orvis and pick up a few crab and sand fleas.

Will be out at 6:30 in the morning, I have 3 straight days to fish solo all day
