Check out Old Florida Outfitters on 30a. They have a great selection of everything you'll need and can tell you what's been going on this week.

Should I just skip Orvis and hit Old Florida in the morning?

Anyone fishing that has an extra spot on the bow for a fly novice, I’d love to join.

Post up your results. I plan on living between sela and destin the month of July while job searching.

Picking up an Allen kraken 7-9wt today and going to order a 9’ BVK to pair it with. Anyone have line suggestions for redfish?

I got out at 6:30 and apparently missed the ladyfish run, I will get out at 5:45 tomorrow.

About to head to Old Florida and gear up.

This is my first outing with the 8wt and it is a dream to cast vs my 5wt. It is naturally heavier at the reel end but damn the line shoots and lays out effortlessly.

Make sure you’re using an abbrasion resistant leader. Those skipjacks are an absolute blast on the fly. Poor man’s tarpon. They will tear a leader to shreds through.

Choctawhatchee bay is notoriously difficult to fish. There’s a large flat at the north end of the mid bay bridge. Ross Marler Park and Fort Walton beach park also offer wadable flats. I’ve caught ladyfish at FWB Park on the fly. Never know what you’ll get there because the flat drops off into pretty deep water. Tight lines!

Tough day today. Hit the surf at 5:45 this morning and it looked like the Bering Sea, so that was a scratch.

Went down and fished a massive flat at Gulf Islands National Seashore, about a mile East of Ross Marler. Hit it from 10:30 to 1 with no action. I saw fish crusing the edge of the flat and threw the box at them but no luck.

Headed to give the gulf side at my condo a look.

Still having a blast though, this 8wt is fun as hell and its very gratifying.

Would recommend fishing gulf islands flat again. My dad catches a lot of fish on those flats when he's over that way.

That’s the one I was talking about in my earlier post as “FWB Park”

Great flat that drops off into deep water. The gates don’t open to the parking lot until like 7 or 8. When I get there before sunrise I park just past the west entrance. There’s a small parking lot right off the highway that in front of what was a vacant lot at the time. I just walked through the chain link fence. Nobody has ever said anything to me about it

Hey dudes. If anyone here is interested, I'm gonna do a live stream on the Skinny Water Culture instagram (@skinnywaterculture) tomorrow night talking about travel gear and how/what to pack for flats fishing trips. I'm gonna cover fishing gear, photo gear, and general travel stuff that I've found to be helpful when taking flats trips, particularly DIY. Not certain on the time yet, but will likely be 8:00pm CST.
