I got to thinking this last night while taking inventory at my house. I had to buy a 6' craftsman storage cabinet to house my ammunition and magazines. The wife already thinks I have crossed the line but I think you need to be able to adequately feed your collection. What does the OT think?

I think if you're a good dude, you should buy as much of that stuff as you can afford. We might need it.

You're only paranoid if they're not really out to get you. And of course we know they are.

I don't think you are over the line. I try to be as practical as I can in my collection. I see people that buy SOOOOO many different weapons in SOOOOO many different calibers, and I just can't do it. For instance, my current carry weapon is a CZ P01. I have never fired a 9mm that I like better. So when I went to purchase another 9mm, I bought the same thing again. Now I have two of them. All the mags are interchangeable, I can strip one to use as parts if I need to, etc. etc. Same thing with ammo/caliber in my collection. Unless a particular caliber just won't do the job, I don't go looking for something different.

I think the line is at that point where you pack yourself a bug-out back with weapons, MREs and survival shite like you're gonna wake up one morning and be Jason Bourne.

By the way, what do you guys think about this bag I'm looking at?

As long as you're not arming yourself against the imminent revolt of the hostages you've had in your shed for the past 12 years, I think you're ok.

That is the problem I have run into. I have 15 different calibers and 7 of those are magazine fed. Not the best planning on my part

THIS is the best answer that could be given.

The way I like to explain it is a gun is akin a fire extinguisher. You hope that you never have a fire and need a fire extinguisher but if you do have a fire, you don't want to be scrambling to find a fire extinguisher. The same is true of guns and ammo. I hope I never need to use them but should the need ever arise, I am not going to be the one scrambling saying, "Oh shite! What do we do now?"

the reason I like the bug out gear one is it is set up for a 100 oz. camelback bladder insert.

Putty, that is a nice pack but you can find a bag that is just as good for a whole lot less than that.

You could think of this in a couple of different ways... one is that you have too many calibers to support, like if you are reloading your own and the like. The other is that if you have to buy ammo or find it foraging, that you have a better chance of finding something that will fit one of your guns.

Time to liquidate and consolidate.

For me, it's 9MM for pistols. I know it's not as perfect as the .40, but it will do the job, it's cheaper, and it's easier for the womenfolk to shoot if they have to.

.223 for rifles, though I haven't bought an AR yet. I like 7.62x39 rifles, but I figure if it all goes to hell, .223 will be in the armories we have to bust into. .308 is just impractical, at least in a so-called battle rifle. Maybe if you lived in the mountains and were going to need to shoot big-arse animals, but not here.

I just need to pick up a few more rifles of the same type. I wouldn't mind a few more AR-15's/AK's
