I've been looking at this thing for about 8 months. I'm so close to pulling the trigger on it. for the price, i could buy a real boat (used) but I fish alone most of the time so I don't really need a full size boat. Let me hear the OB's opinion.

Read more on the Bote Rover

As configured here (minus the micro power pole)- $5800

While I don't have the rover, I own a Flood SUP and it has been enjoyable. Very light and tracks well. Caught it on sale last winter in Destin. I've yet to fish off of it, but I plan to next time I go to Destin.

It is and they even admit it. They are just thinking that people would like another option.

I got a good look at them during the Bassmaster Classic expo and they are impressive. But when prices get up to a certain point, I start thinking that money would be better served going toward a bigger boat. I think the same thing with some of the kayaks out there. I’m not OT rich, so I can’t justify throwing around a few grand on things like that. But if you can, more power to you.

I don't have any experience with the bite, but I had a solo skiff for a second.

...I didn't like it. Too slow with the motor and not as stable as my pro angler was.

gheenoe and soloskiff both require a trailer. I've already got the roof rack for my jeep that i use to carry a kayak and SUP board.

I've never kayak fished, so maybe I'm missing something, but I don't particularly see the appeal of it. Personally, I'd rather have a boat that I could have another person fish with me if I chose. I know this isn't a kayak, but to me, its kinda the same concept, a water craft to fish alone in.

I enjoy fishing alone sometimes, but I also enjoy bringing another person with me, which is why I just upgraded so that its a little more comfortable for two.

All that being said, that thing looks pretty fricking sweet. What HP are they rated for?

$5800 is pretty nuts for that thing, that would get you into a pretty decent Gheenoe that'll fit 2 people, be more stable, go in pretty much the same waters, and get there faster.

ETA: 100+lb might make it a bit of a bitch to roof rack, plus mount/dismount your motor every time.

a gheenoe would probably serve you better if you fish by yourself and want a small low-draft boat. If you're going to spend $6k, you can find a used flat boat with a bigger motor and trolling motor for that price.

I mean are you allergic to trailers? If you got a bigger flat boat, you could use it as a mother ship. If you got a boat, do you have to get rid of your paddle craft? What's the harm in keeping the rack with nothing on it, like it probably is most of the time.

That Bote is 100lbs bare, you are going to beat the hell out of it dragging it around, trying to get it on your roof rack. You're going to hate it.

I have a bote SUP, but not with their new coating. We move it around via my boat or truck and it is getting beat up, I can only imagine the rover with the extra weight

Not to mention taking a motor and ice chest and all your gear on/off every trip; and then storing all of that in a jeep...

If that doesn't sound like a nightmare, then maybe a Bote is for you. It looks cool.

not at all, but pulling my camping trailer and a boat trailer with one vehicle is not my idea of a good time.

If you want a micro Skiff, I think the solo Skiff is the best option. It would be about 1.5k less than what you have listed. Probably pretty equal performance and stability wise.
I owned and fished out of several kayaks before getting a solo. There is no comparison stability, speed or range wise. Mine tops out around 17 mph w a tohatsu 6hp, and will run all day on a 2.5 gallon tank. You can fall out of one, but you aren’t going to turn it over. Built in storage, livewrll/ice chest, perfect for getting around in the shallows.
