Taking a trip to OB the first week of June. Will surf fishing still be decent around that time? What should I expect to catch?
Lived in Gulf Shores when I was young and we would surf fish on the beach where the Lagoon meets the gulf and caught tons of good sized Red Snapper. Don’t remember what time of year we were doing that though.
Bringing my Yak so I figured I could paddle out past the sand bar, cast, paddle back in and chill, just not sure if it’ll be the right time of year.
Thanks for any help

You can always hit the surf at daylight with a spoon , top water or just about anything and get some action.

When we go in the summer I always catch sand fleas and put them on a Carolina Rig, Pampano love them but I'm not sure when they run the beach.

Little Lagoon. There is a nice drop off just north of the Compass Point condo pool which is a good spot for trout and flounder.

In Fort Morgan kinda across the road from Pontoon Lane. There’s a spot you can put in your kayak or wade fish for trout and flounder.

Pines Park boat launch in Fort Morgan. Head west and fish the stumps for redfish.

We went last week. I found im either relaxing or slave to watching the pole tip so we didn't fish but a few times.

I used a Pompano rig. Fish bites and dead shrimp cast to mexico. Had better luck on the sand flea fish bite flavor. I cut a 45 on a piece of 2” pvc used as my rod holder. Some dudes have fancier ones but Im a redneck. Ive heard you can catch big reds and drum at night with fish heads. Prob shark too.

Caught a ray, son caught 14.5” pomp and I caught 17.5” 2lb pomp.

Probably. I use a pompano rig and shrimp fishbites as bait. Apparently the Colquin Clam FishBites bait is getting more hits vs shrimp bites. Google a local fishing store to go and buy the freshest FishBites. Only problem I see for you in 3 weeks is June Grass (a slimy seaweed that bogs down your line)

There is actually a guide that takes people surf fishing there. He is typically on the alabama saltwater fishing report almost weekly. Download the app and listen to a few shows on the way etc u will be set.

That’s pretty impressive. I have never caught a Red Snapper from the surf.

He probably means redfish. Red Snapper never venture within a mile of the beach.

My dad's been down to Perdido a good bit lately and catching lots of redfish. Probably half were too big to keep. 18 to 27 inches in Florida is the limit.

Gearing up for our trip next month to Destin, I havent really ever surf fished, whats a good setup as far a reel/rod, lb test line, etc?

Also, I've never hooked a ray or a shark, you just cut the line when you get them in or what?

I bass fish 90% of the time and do a little inland saltwater from time to time

Doubt you will encounter pompano over 5". Ladyfish and hardtail will be common. Whiting on bottom with shrimp. Blue fish may pass through.

I use Gulps in the molting pattern first thing and will wear out the flounder. They do work on pretty much everything out there.
