I'm pretty sure that my wife is about to buy me a new shotgun because she's been asking a lot of questions about which ones I like. So would you recommend the 26" or 28" barrel? I hunt pretty much everything from flooded timber to wide open fields, sand bars, etc. TIA

28" and please post a pic of that wonderful wife! Damn!

I always have to sneak a new gun in and then hide it for a while so if/when she asks, I can say, "I've had this one for a while".

i'm gona be the odd ball here. i have a SBE 1 (original) 28" but i have a 26" barrel i swap to sometimes and don't notice much difference other than i "feel faster" with the 26". i do need to make sure that i follow through correctly with the 26".

Why 28? If you like it for the swing, great, the shorter gun will mount a touch quicker and not be quite as cumbersome in a blind. The 28" is not ballistically superior to the 26".

If you are less than average tall, you might be better off with the 26".

Most of the time I'm the same way. If she knew how many guns I've bought in the last year she wouldn't be doing this.

I'm 6'4" (really, I am) and I prefer 26" barrels.

I have 26" on my Browning and 2 SBE's. I feel like they're quicker.

Exact advice I received from a seasoned skeet shooter when I bought my SBE1 and I stuck with the 26" when I bought my SBE2. That receiver adds more length to the gun than you'd think.

26" every day, and twice on Sunday.

I hunt out of timber & pit blinds, its shorter & easier to handle. The faster burning powders now days don't need longer barrels to completely burn.

With chokes these days, barrel length is much less significant than it used to be. I'd go with 26".

Swing them both with the same stock you would buy. Different guns have different weight distributions and depending on how your cheek rests on the stock, different barrel lengths will provide different sight planes. For duck hunting, overall weight wasn't that important, so I cared more about the overall feel. For quail hunting, I cared more about the overall weight because I carry it more.

Properly choked, 26" is going to be fine. That's my preferred non-defense shotgun barrel length. It almost feels unfair to swing 26" skeet guns if you're used to shooting 28" for example.

28 unless you're a woman and cant handle the extra length...ps you'll love this gun. i picked up one in max 5 when they came out and it's been perfect..ps it comes w extended chokes so it's closer to 30''. it barely fits in my soft case
