Looking for a wood burning fire pit. Seems like ones on Amazon, etc are poor quality/thin metal. What brands or sites do you recommend? I’m not looking to spend a thousand bucks on a pit, but am willing to pay a little more for a quality heavy duty fire pit.

I have some solo stoves because they are smokeless once they get going.

Check out Boathouse smokers on Facebook. I just got mine Friday. It has removable expanded metal on top so you can grill on it also. And has a rail around it for a foot prop while sitting around it.

How big? I took an old wood fire pit and turned it into a gas fired one with fireglass.

Built a burner ring out of tubing and drilled 1/16th holes in it all the way around.

You have to put sand under it to make a flat place for the burner ring to sit. Tie it in place with coper wire. Pour a bag of colored fire glass.

Looks great. Bring it camping.

Like this but round

There are convertible kits available.

The ones that Buccees carry are great.
I picked one up one the way back from La last year.
I believe a company in TX builds them for Buccees.

I have a boathouse fire pit. Great quality. Though, my cooking grate doesn't fit anymore because the sides warped on the pit.

Solo stove. I’ve had one since they did their OG kickstarter sale and it’s been worth every penny.

Check a scrap yard and look for a 18 wheeler tire rim. Will last a life time.

We got ours from CBC welding and fabrication near Alexandria. He makes a great pit and can customize it with any design you want. He’s got a Facebook page that shows his work. We are very pleased with it and felt it was reasonably priced.

We just built this one from large stones we had, some mortar and sand in the bottom. The concrete was also jackhammered out in a circle. Need some cool nights now.

I bought a cheap on for $50. Lasted two years and throw away. Just got another. It gets used often.

Would love the solo stove but not sure the $$$ is worth it. If it last ten years would be nice.

does it put out a good amount of heat?

Thanks

I got this 37” from S & S firepits out of Georgia a few years ago. It looks like the price jumped up since I bought it. I think the 30” would be big enough for most patio’s.

You can also make the same thing pretty easily from a Pipe cap if you know anyone with fabrication skills.

Bought the Yukon a couple weeks ago. Should be cold enough this coming weekend to give it its maiden voyage. Looking forward to it.

+1 on a fire pit from Buckees. Had an old pipe cap put and not enlighten heat went out by us it all went up away from us. Got the Buckees with a cooking grate and we use the hell out of it.

I’ve been thinking about solo stove, can they go underneath a patio awning, I have an extended tin roof patio about 8-9 feet high.... or does it need to be in open air?

There is a guy up the road that will stop and pick up anything and everything that folks put out on trash day that may have some sort of value. I’ve been driving by and noticing what appears to be a drum from the inside of a washing machine elevated on some cinder blocks in his front yard. Drove by one night and that thing was glowing red from the fire he had going in it. Washing machine drum fire pit.
