Never seen this before. Is this common practice in Louisiana?

Actually they look like thinner refrigerant or air tanks

That's what they are, not propane tanks...

This time of year they are spawning and get in holes. Seen it done with PVC pipe as well.

Do you bait them? Only when they are breeding? Not convinced that video doesn’t have a little BS in it, but I could do a small line of 4-5 just to get some easy fish.

I don't think they bait them. They do have a few small holes in the bottom to let water in also. My guess he is in an area with alot of catfish. Also I guess catfish like holes to hide in, that's what those noodling ppl do is reach in a hole and pull them out.

Any type tank with the right size hole will work...refrig tanks are the right size easy to pick up.

Nothing like destroying a lot of nests for the catfish is there. Rather like shooting fish in a barrel, here you are trapping them in their nests and destroying their hatch. Sounds to me like a real sportsman like activity.

If you caught them on a hook would anything change?

It’s like people saying they don’t shoot does after the rut because the are pregnant

Lake Verrett

Seen this done many years out there. Some use small barrels and pull up some 30-40 pound catfish

In lake des allemands we used paint cans. Works great.

1. the loss of many paint cans inserts a lot of good egg laying spots into the bayou. Catching catfish in this way was considered to be favorable overall to the population.

2. biggest problem my brother had with can fishing was other people finding and running his cans
