For those worried about killing night vision. I'm always in the blind long enough before shooting time to regain my night vision before ducks start piling in.

Is this a Louisiana thing? Every gator hunter in Florida and Alabama runs spot lights all night long. Tugs have huge spotlights working non stop down the interCoastal.

There’s plenty of right ways to run lights at night. For one you use them just like a car, you shine 50 yards or so in front of you not 500 yards down river. Turn them off when you see another boat, etc. I use a spotlight not a bar, not a fan of a mounted light personally.

I put a ‘cover’ on the top and sides of my lights so there’s a very tight beam. What really kills night vision is the peripheral light. Cheapest thing is to tape a piece of cardboard 2/3s around it that sticks out about 2 inches. Helps night vision a lot.

I’m talking about covering miles and miles. If I’m only going a short distance from the launch to the blind or fishing spot I don’t use a light by any means.

$25 dollar amazon light bars are better than any q beam I ever had. Also hold a good LED light to look off other boaters and at things to one side or another as I pass. I’ll never have another hand held light as my main source

I carry a q beam . You hit that fricker in the face with 1mil candle power he will shut that light bar off quick.. I hate dumb frickers that run in open water with a light bar.

Agreed. Its all on the angle the bar is pointing. When bow fishing with lights that point at the water you can still see great. Most light bars are pointing straight out and shining in the trees like they coon hunting.

That Streamlight and the Survivor have very tight beams with out much light noise around it so it works well for a hand held light.

Pretty sure you reccomended it to me. The mount is a pain in the arse to adjust but once that is done it works great. I'm glad I went cheap and got the nilight.

I run bayous and there is rarely anybody coming towards me. I shut the light off when they do

I have a rechargable coon hunting cap that i use. Its a kelly k light. Very badass but very overpriced these days.

Get a good headlight. Having both hands free while driving is awesome.

I did.

After they survived a helluva wreck in my sux I knew they were durable. But they also put out as much light as a rigid or aurora.

i just bought one of these and am really pleased with it as far as a handheld goes. runs off battery or 12 volt plug. obviously its a little more justifiable because i already have a bunch or ryobi stuff so i already had the Li-ion big batteries and chargers etc. but so far I'm really pleased.

If you cant see with moonlight you aren't running the route enough and shouldn't be hunting there anyway....

no kidding? so.. having lights on looking for obstructions, or logs, etc that may have floated in overnight, or other boaters that may not have lights on a cloudy night with no moon means you dont run the route enough and shouldn't be hunting there?... ooo k....i gotcha

Yall are a bunch of poors. FLIR is the only answer.

Jk. Most boats I've been on with a Mounted LED bar bleed too much light onto the bow, which completely kills your night vision. If its bow mounted I can see that helping, but I agree you shouldn't run with it constantly on.

not at all. i guess I'm not sure what you mean then. i took it just as you said it. no biggie, i guess i just don't understand. maybe i shouldn't be running some areas at night, but ill choose artificial day light anyday.
