Yea I was 8 when I killed my first one. And shot the woods up for a couple years prior to finally killing him. I really didn't think there was a chance of him killing one, we were just going to be going. Next think I know it's 6:45 am and I back at the camp skinnin a deer.

Great story, congrats!
That's the way to do it. My brother bought my nephew a Rossi 22/.410/243 and let him get good with the .22. My brother sighted in the .243 and my nephews first time shooting it was when he killed his first deer, double lung at 100 yards. He never knew he wasn't shooting the .22. After the excitement of the shot he said "Daddy, why was the gun so loud!?!?"

We had been practicing with a .22 and a .17. I had him shooting on of my old 3d bow targets and he had gotten pretty good at hitting it behind the shoulder. I slipped him my .223 in the stand and he never knew the difference. He nailed the deer right through the pumping station and dropped it in it's tracks.

Thanks. She's been going with me a couple times each year since she was 3. It started out with her only being able to sit for 15-20 minutes, then eventually she could sit longer and longer. About and hour and a half is her limit now before she gets bored. She shoots pretty well. She's probably gone through 500 rds of .22 in the past 6 months practicing. At 50 yds you wouldn't want her shooting at you.
I had pictures of that deer before and during bow season, and plenty of him last year. I tried to hunt him a couple times this year during bow season and it never worked out. When I took her I was kinda hoping that deer wouldn't show up, as I was worried about her missing it or worse, shooting it in the arse or something. Then I remembered all the deer I killed in my father's lap when I was young, and he never once told me not to at least try the shot. I remember once he said "there are lots of deer in the woods, and they aren't about to quit making bullets." I'll continue to let kids shoot at whatever legal deer we see. Gotta give them confidence .

Great story, been doing this with mine. Killed his first at 8. Open sight at 50 yrds...In my wildest, didn't think he would kill it. It was free-handed, at decent distance....I just wanted him to have the experience...Well dead dear, through the heart, watched it run right into a tree, as it crashed. Never forget that, changed alot of things...Now, he's a killing machine, killing deer with arcery, ML, and rifle for 3 years in a row....The great thing is watching them grow, and apply the things you don't think they are grasping...and they do...
