She doesnt want to spend more than $300 so she has been looking at adopting. She wants something in the 20 to 50 lb range since it will be inside. I've been trying to convince her to get a puppy but shes worried about the cost. Anybody know of anybody with unwanted pups? Prefer to not be pitt or pitt mix. All of my dogs were either free or cheap but it seems harder to find that now.
Eta: reading the other 1st page thread on this topic now. Most of the suggestions on that are for pure bred hunting types it seems. She's wanting a budget dog to run with.

Well, since this Covid crap it seems shelters have had a run on adoption and many of them have no dogs up for adoption now------which is a good thing for the dogs.
Add to that, most responsible pet owners have their animals spayed or neutered and there are fewer and fewer unwanted litters of puppies that you can grab one from.
A mix breed dog will not cost all that much as compared to a full blood of almost any breed dog and that may be your best option.
Personally, I would opt for a pup so it will grow up around your family and know early on what is expected of them. No telling how others have treated the dog or what they tried to do as far as even remedial training.

That's what I convinced her, the problem is purebreds cost more than we want to spend for a couch dog. An above poster said theres a run on shelters and I can believe it. Havent seen much in the area.

There’s a No Kill org in LC we got one from but they preform an anal exam prior to adoption. Wife said it’s Animal Rescue and may or may not still be in business.
Don’t buy the remedial training nonsense unless it’s a pb. Dogs can tell when people want the around and raising them inside helps tremendously with their development.
Would suggest a greyhound if she’s a runner or catahoula.

I suggested a retired greyhound since I'm not really a fan of her cat. That didn't go over well.

Whippet or Italian greyhound would be smaller and live longer also. Greyhound adoption is similar to a human adoption I’ve been told.

there are hundreds of young pups up for adoption on FB, just have to look around and not be too particular on pure breds.
Ive had very few full blooded dogs in my life, and most all were really good pets

Where are you located? I have a friend who is giving away a 5 year old male feist and has a 10 week old male feist puppy. Located in Lafourche parish

I know a vet who comes across pups all the time that he fixes for shelters, may possibly be able to get one where are you located?

Don’t do it. The dog will stink up your house and drag his dock all over your belonging.

I'm in Broussard. I mentioned the Feist and she said that she is going look at some at the pound tomorrow. I hope she doesn't end up with a New Iberia pit bull that smokes kools

My buddy has papers on his. He is giving away the mom also. He sold his place in Mississippi and is living in his motorhome, so no room for poochies. I can send you pics if you want, post your email.

Gf's dog came from an attorney who had a very well bred show bull terrier. She was in his brick courtyard at his office and an enterprising chocolate lab cleared the wall and had some fun.
That's a combination of two dogs I don't like.
Honest assessment, he's a great dog and listens well. Super sweet and about as submissive as they come.
