Thanks guys, That's what I thought as well. It's on my moms back porch and she's worried about her dogs, just wanted to confirm!

Water snake - not venomous but if it is like most of its relatives calling it harmless is not accurate either. They will draw blood with repeated bites and thrash and poop like crazy most of the time if you try to handle.

Heard that a water snake bite can give you gangrene?

I grew up with the 40 arpent canal in my back yard. So not only did we catch water snakes quite frequently, we caught water snakes living in a sewage canal. Got bit more times than I can count, and 99% of the time we didn’t even clean the bite with peroxide or anything. We just went about our business. And not once did any of us ever get an infection or any complications from a snake bite.
