How close did you watch him? Bet you never saw a deer

I was thinking he was drying out from all this rain.

I sat there for 2 hours before I realized he was there. After that I kept my eye on him. Saw 3 does.

I was told by a guy several years ago that someone/professor did some telemetry research on timber rattlesnakes and they said they found a bunch of them in trees late summer/early fall. The theory was they were specifically targeting squirrels before winter.
I never looked that research up.
Depending on location, I could see how some timber rattlesnakes could have more of a tendency to go up in trees. Like inside the MS levee. The ones that climbed trees survived more often or at least had better nutrition.

Is it a canebrake?
Definitely venomous but not sure. The breed.

I know of an ol boy who died from snake bite in belle chase. He was hog hunting and going through some hog trails and got bit on the neck and died from suffocation. They found his gear as he was shedding stuff trying to make it back to his bike. Numerous snakes were seen waist to chest high during the search.

Or Timber. Aren't they the same?

Why is he still alive?

I would have made him move.
Do not go in the woods without a snake relocator.

I think increasingly, people know what they are looking at and give a snake like this wide berth. I wouldn't do anything to it. But, I live on a lake with a stepped walkway down a hill to the dock. I have thought many times what I would do in the dark of night if I came up that walkway upon a big cottonmouth. So I understand it when someone wants to put them away.

I had no idea this was a thing. That’s just great. More shite to worry about

Well great...something to think about when climbing up in a ladder stand before daylight.

A friend of mine sent me a video about 10 years ago of one going up a beech tree. He was bowhunting and the snake was eye level with him. He lost site of him at some point he said. Snake was going up the whole time.

Y’all stop! I already have plenty excuses on why not to hunt during warm temperatures.

When did that bite happen

I’ve seen them in the spring when morning temps were around freezing.
