Who do y'all trust with your dog's health in Baton Rouge? My son is in school over there and recently adopted a dog. He's looking for a vet.

Where does he live? I use Dr Waguespack on Perkins/Siegen behind Calandro's. Real nice and real weird dude.

I use Associated Veterinary Services of Greenwell Springs. CAAWS (where I adopted my dog from) suggested them. They do employ interns from LSU, but they always have a vet look at the dog on all visits. They also worked with me when she had heartworms to get my dog back heartworm free. They are also on the less expensive side for visits.

That being said, there are plenty great vets / options around to choose from.

Armstrong on Highland. Good guy who won't try to screw you with money as he is very non invasive. Only does procedures if he thinks the animal really needs it (unless you ask him to). Honest guy.

Just took my new rescue pup to Seigen last week. Very good initial impression. Actually saw his partner Dr. Fazio and liked her.

Dr Wag is the man. Old school dude, haha, definately kind of weird. I've been taking my German shepherd there for 6 years. I vouch for him.

For just yearly checkups and puppy shots, go to AVS, will save a lot of money, wouldn't go there for anything serious, I've had some problems with their opinion on prefered treatments for more serious problems.

Dr. Helluin is a great vet on airline hwy is a great vet for more serious issues, and also very affordable.

I've only had to take my dogs to Baton Rouge twice because our regular vet (whom I am extremely pleased with) doesn't have an after hours emergency room.

I took one to the Sherwood South Animal hospital for stitches. They treated her well and were great people.

I took another one of my dogs to the LSU Vet School Small Animal Clinic and they saved her life. She was literally dying in my wife's arms on the ride. The most scared I've been in my whole life. They quickly diagnosed her with HGE (basically dying of dehydration while all the while vomiting and shitting blood) and put her on a IV immediately. She ended up staying there for 3 days while she recovered. I visited her everyday and I could tell by the way she behaved she was receiving plenty of care and attention.

Just outside of BR ...

Dutchtown Animal Hospital

Very friendly and knowledgeable. Reviews, outside of mine, are all favorable as well.
