Sight fishing reds is one of my favorite hobbies and a quality pair of sunglasses is essential for spotting these floating pumpkins. Currently, I'm using Cost 580G in amber with Green mirror.

Im looking to get another pair of glasses, but not familiar with the other brands and how they perform on the water.
I'm hearing alot about Smith Optics but i have no first hand experiences with them.

What is the best brand/color/tint to spot out reds.

Also, I need to re-do my seats as they are starting to crack. Any rec's on who to go to in the Br or Houma area?

For your troubles, here is my personal skiff porn. feel free to share your sled and glasses to go with it.

the copper/amber lenses with green tint are the best for inshore sight fishing. So you have what you are looking for.

The popular fishing brands besides Costa are
Smith
Maui Jim
RCI

I have smiths and cotas and I don't think there is a ton of difference but edge to the Smiths

I went to Maui Jim’s after dealing with Costas garbage frames for a while. I love my Maui Jim’s, but I also plan to pick up a pair of Smiths in a couple of weeks. You want an amber backed lens

Whatever type of glasses you get, for sight fishing get a pair with wide arms to block excess sunlight from restricting your view, such as the Costa Corbinas.

I have switched over to Shady Rays. You can pick the lens mirror color but not the tint. Luckily they are amber lenses. Lifetime replacement on them for just $8.00 and they only run about $50.

They even have white frames for you Acadiana baws. I wish they would get tortoise shell frames.

In for the glasses, I was going to make this thread last night. If you willing to go to Lockport I can give you the name of a damn good upholstery guy.

I pass through that area on the regular. That would be easy for me to drop off around that location. Please provide his contact info

I've been using costa with amber base for over a decade and have been very happy. Decided to give Smith with ChromaPop lenses a try and have been just as happy. I don't see a measurable difference in the two. The slight difference I noticed was Smith was slightly more crisp on full sun, and costa was slightly more crisp when a cloud passed by.

Really splitting hairs, but I spent a couple days spotting reds from my platform, swapping between both, to see if there was a difference and that was all I could pick up on.

Im confused.

Copper or green? Which one would be better for sight fishing from lower viewing angle (ie. standing in a kayak)?

I have a pair of Oakleys with the black polarized lenses that I've had for years. Good for driving or just being outside in the sun but they suck for trying to sight fish.

I have a pair of Oakleys with their shallow water lenses. They work great.

The green mirror has the copper based lenses. I didn't see a difference. I'm told the mirror lenses create more glare off your face, but I'd didn't notice a difference in the two.

Love my Smiths. Our whole crew wears them inshore and offshore. Amber is better for inshore, grey better for offshore.

Yeah, I’ve got a pair of both standard copper and copper/green. By the numbers I think there’s a percentage point or 2 difference in light transmission but I don’t think my eyes are good enough to see it.

Ive worn Costa 580G in green mirror for years and they are great. I recently bought a pair of Maui Jim's with the maui sunrise lens... It is a rose/pink lens with a mirror finish... they are fantastic. Also, they feel about 14 lbs lighter on my face than the Costas do.

Agreed. I have the same ones pictured in OP, but in plastic because they are much lighter.
