What's the OB's preference and why? I have friends that have both and swear by both...

All the Benelli fan boys talk about not having to clean it, never jamming.

All the gas fan-boys talk about the lighter recoil and that cleaning isn't that bad and that inertia kicks like a mule.

What say you???

I think the gas shoots the lighter shells better.

But at what point do you need even less recoil? Yes gas is a bit lighter then inertia but inertia is way lighter than pump. Inertia is fine if you aren't half a fig and don't want to bother with cleaning.

You want to throw a line like this out at 7am on a Monday.

I shoot a benelli. I love it. I don't think it kicks much but I went from a Remington 887 to my super black eagle 2. So there's a big difference there.

Yeah I don’t really get the softer shooting argument. If you’re a grown arse man it doesn’t make that big of a difference. I do agree that has guns cycle lighter loads with more consistency. I’ll akways be an inertia guy just for the fact that they are lighter.

or just take care of your gear regardless. I have to repair and send back more Benelli than just about any other quality made shotgun. not because they are poorly designed or anything, its just that dumbasses believe they don't have to clean them. clean your weapons. inertia or gas.

in choosing between the two, it truly doesn't matter, pick a shotgun that shoulders the best to you.

Have an 80s A5 and a Maxus. The A5 feels like shooting a pogo stick, not sure about newer ones. The Maxus is smooth as silk. I don't notice the recoil on either, it's part if it. the Maxus needs cleaning more often, but switched to Kent's bc they are noticeably cleaner shooting. I think it comes down to preference.

Find a gun that fits, points, ans swings the way you like. Then man up on the recoil.

I heard the SBE2 jams more than an old, overworked printer.

I have shot mine for the last two years and I have never had a jam. That includes a dove hunting weekend where we probably shot 8 boxes of cheap, dirty shells.

I have the SX3 gas gun and had the SX2 before this one. I have never shot an inertia gun. I wipe mine down after most hunts, but really only break it down a couple of times a season.
As others have said, pick what fits. The SX3 fit me better than any others I fooled with when shopping.

I have several Benellis and a beretta extrema 2 and while I'll shoot both I usually use a Benelli. I find them much easier to break down and clean although all are good guns. Fit is pretty important too.

I like recoil guns, particulalary Benellis because the forend is very slim on them.

Only safe queens never jam or need cleaning.

It's a 2" section of metal to clean. Solvent, toothbrush, oil, done. No semi-auto shotgun kicks like any mule. A cheap New England Pardner shotgun firing magnums has a bit of kick though.

I’ve got a H&R slug gun that will humble any recoil junkie.

Really alters your perception of what recoil is. It’s not just unpleasant, it fricking hurts.

The only time I shoot a shotgun is for dove. I really don't notice the recoil unless I make a bad shoulder position shooting in an awkward aiming position by my poor choice of footwork (usually shooting to my left and the stock finds its way close to my bicep). Which is the novice in me of course.
